Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Lacrosse 2011 polls [3/21 #10] - 13 years ago
The part that bothered me most was that there was no explanation of whose jersey it was, and I suspect very few current students (and even fewer pre-frosh, who have been all around campus the last few weeks) have any idea about who George Boiardi was or what happened to him. I would be okay with it if they had attached a card that gave the history of that jersey number, and I'd probably buy one iby Ben - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2011 polls [3/21 #10] - 13 years ago
How about we just win (at least) one of the two remaining games and make this a non-issue? Also, I saw some #21 jerseys (current style) in the Cornell Store a few days ago. I know the history behind it, so it seemed slightly distasteful at best to put jerseys with that number out for sale. Can anyone shed some light onto why they're doing this?by Ben - Other Sports

Needless to say, a great win. (Now I'm even more annoyed that I couldn't make the trip up there.)by Ben - Other Sports

Great first quarter, Cornell up 5-1 from a late goal by Mock.by Ben - Other Sports

This is one of the times when I really regret deciding to study abroad. Does anybody know if there are (ever) viewing parties in London?by Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard lacrosse - 13 years ago
billhoward And based on Princeton's narrow loss, 7-5, to Syracuse, our final game, against the Tigers, is no sure win either. Unless the Syracuse game was an off day for the Orange, Princeton appears to finally have its act together. Hopefully that off-day will carry over through Tuesday. I was hoping to get to the Carrier Dome to see us face Syracuse, but Cornell Abroad foiled those plans.by Ben - Other Sports

A bit surprised Fiore got benched after the ninth Harvard goal, but West did a solid job filling in. Lau was great, he made up for the atrocious commentary.by Ben - Other Sports
Re: March Madness - 13 years ago
phillysportsfan And Princeton's coach Sydney Johnson is off to Fairfield, amazing considering he went there, was a senior captain, etc. Meanwhile VCU's coach stays off after getting a raise from $325K to $1.2 million a year. If the league doesnt want to pay coaches this will continue to happen, all about money For what it's worth, the Cornell Basketball Blog guys seem to think it's also because hby Ben - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Dartmouth lax - 13 years ago
Quite enjoyable for the first time I've seen lacrosse live. It looked to me like Pannell's goal at the end of the first quarter was a big turning point -- Dartmouth had us pinned back for much of the opening fifteen minutes but we were far stronger after that. I'm not sure why people were comparing lacrosse to soccer in the other thread, it is far harder to retain possession (and there is a loby Ben - Other Sports

Jeff Hopkins '82 Ben That seemed to have been the attitude at women's hockey until the later stages of this season. It didn't stop us from trying to create some atmosphere, but we'll see how things go on Saturday. I'm not saying to avoid trying to create some atmosphere. I remember a lot more atmosphere at lacrosse games back "when I was a lad" so it was certainly done in the past.by Ben - Other Sports

Jeff Hopkins '82 jtwcornell91 Jeff Hopkins '82 Ben I hope this is the right place for this question...some of my friends and I will be going to the game against Dartmouth this weekend. It'll be our first lacrosse game, so we'd like to know what the fan etiquette is, i.e. is the goalie a "sieve"? Is it all his fault when we score? Are there any lacrosse-specific chants, and is it OK if wby Ben - Other Sports

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference - 13 years ago
Swampy Seriously, I've got to believe it's all about the money. ND would more likely gravitate to HE or the Big 10. (Like the Big East has more basketball schools than football schools.) But an expanded ECAC with a nice TV contract and schools in Ohio and Michigan might work. Remember, though, right now all ECAC travel can be done by bus. Once you add Ohio, the New England schools start to takby Ben - Hockey
Re: ECAC Inferiority - 13 years ago
billhoward Ben billhoward Let's work on getting the Ivies eligible for the Division 1-A-Something football playoffs, too. The Ivy presidents discriminate against football in a way that doesn't cause them any trouble with any federal affirmative action / equal opportunities commission. Right now that benefits Harvard but in a couple years, maybe us, too. Related to this: why is it that the Ivy chaby Ben - Hockey

Denver wins 3-2 with 8 minutes left in the 2nd OT. WMU had some good chances a few minutes before, but Denver must be totally exhausted and probably easy opponents for NoDak tomorrow.by Ben - Hockey
Re: NCAA regionals 2011 - 13 years ago
5-3 and game on indeed. Miracle comeback anyone?by Ben - Hockey
Re: NCAA regionals 2011 - 13 years ago
5-2....game on? Still going in 2 OT between Denver and Western Michigan.by Ben - Hockey

Denver pulled it back to 2-2 and then had a shot trickle JUST wide of the post with one second left. Overtime.by Ben - Hockey

ajh258 Ben I know we shouldn't be talking about hockey, but UMD just scored a sweet shorthanded goal against Yale. Ya... UMD looks good right now. Also, can't believe Miami just lost to UNH... With BC's embarrassing loss yesterday, my braket is screwed. Denver pulled one back on the power play, it's 2-1 for the chance to get beaten up by NoDak. I need Denver to come through for my bracket.by Ben - Hockey

Re: Cu - 0 Yale - 6 after two - 13 years ago
css228 ajh258 I'm disappointed that we have such low standards. No wonder student attendance has been declining. As a current student I can tell you the exact reason why student attendance has been declining. I know tons of people who'd love to have season tickets and just can't afford to shell out $260 dollars. As a result the a lot of the people who replaced them are people who thought "itby Ben - Hockey
Re: Women's Frozen Four Thread - 13 years ago
TowerroadI hope we will be playing stronger teams in the regular season next year. We need to be playing teams from the WCHA and HE if we are going to be in shape for the tournament. Absolutely. Mercyhurst was our only non-conference opponent this year that finished in the top 20. Even if WCHA teams don't want to come out to Ithaca (or we don't want to travel there), we should be able to work soby Ben - Hockey

Re: Cornell 7 Dartmouth 1 (W as if you had to ask) - 13 years ago
Great win and a great atmosphere (for which I think my friends and I can take some credit). Jenner's shorthanded goal set the tone, and they bounced back right after conceding on that powerplay. Unfortunately, Wisconsin still look frighteningly good, but we're through to Erie.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 1 Cornell 0 (ECAC QF Game 2) - 13 years ago
From where I was standing in Section A it looked like a goal (and I had a pretty good side view). The video review problem explains why it took so long for the refs to come back out on the ice, we were wondering what was going on there.by Ben - Hockey
