Re: 2023 LTW Rowing - 1 year ago
dbilmes Either Syracuse has lower standards than Cornell, or whatever caused Kerber to leave Cornell wasn't enough to dissuade Syracuse from hiring him. Well, apparently, it wasn’t hitting on female coxswains! .by George64 - Other Sports

Re: 2022 LTW Rowing Posted by: George64 (---.rochester.res.rr.com) [ PM ] Date: December 15, 2022 03:36PM Very interesting. See the very last sentence of the email below. As a donor, I get regular communications from Cornell rowing. I never received any notice about Chris Kerber’s departure. Given the lack of a prior announcement, I assume he was terminated. 2023 LTW Rowing - 1 year ago
Note from new coach Tyler Nase - I am proud to report the team went 3 for 4 against Princeton yesterday retaining both the Platt Cup and the Harriot Cup with wins in the 1V, 3V, and 4V. Race conditions were ideal with low current and a slight varying southeast tail. It was a beautiful bright sunny day in Ithaca. BTW, Nase is a Princeton grad.by George64 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Lacrosse at Army 4/15/23 - 1 year ago
Watching this score in slow motion is watching a thing of beauty. I don’t know how much was planned and how much was extemporaneous, but either way, it speaks volumes for how our team is coached. Blake initially draws two defenders and passes to Kelleher. Blake is now open and signals for the ball, but Kelleher instead passes to Coyle, further drawing defenders away from Blake. Meanwhile, Cby George64 - Other Sports

Re: 2023 Frozen Four - 1 year ago
I’m getting old, I suppose, but if winning an NC$$ championship means one-and-done, two-and-through and paying players through sham NILs becomes the norm, than I’m content just having a competitive ECAC team. We did, afterall, shut out Q in the regular season. I’m not totally naive, I know our players have gotten some great summer jobs in Ithaca and elsewhere, but college sports continue to lby George64 - Hockey
Re: Who deserves 2023 D1 championship - 1 year ago
Trotsky Go Q. Set a standard for the rest of us to ascend to. That would be ironic. I was curious, so I took a look at Q’s website. I found “US News & World Report names Quinnipiac among the best national universities in the nation.” US News ranks them 166th! “The Princeton Review ranks Quinnipiac among the top 388 colleges in the country.” I didn’t check to see who’s 389. .by George64 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros 2022-2023 - 1 year ago
dag14 Among the players who took this route was at least one who won the ECAC academic achievement award. Since the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award was initiated in 2007, four Cornellians have won it — Colin Greening, 2009-10; Keir Ross, 2011-12; Andy Iles, 2013-14; and Kyle Betts, 2020-21. The only other school with as many as four players honored is Union. .by George64 - Hockey

Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Do you suppose that some unsavory Ivy alum might use NIL to get around our athletic “scholarship” ban? Bob Kane ‘34, former Dean of Athletics and Physical Education at Cornell and president of the USOC, must be turning over in his grave. He was a true gentleman (and great writer), who truly believed in the now antiquated ideal of amateurism.by George64 - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
upprdeck i wonder if the NIL game will trickle into college hockey or maybe it already has for those bigger schools.. play college make 500K is pretty good for the high level talent. Until I read this article, I hadn’t realized how out-of-hand NIL has become. I think it’s just a matter of time before it filters down to B1G hockey, if it hasn’t already. Call me naive, but this just flooredby George64 - Hockey

CU77 Why would he transfer? His older brother Colin was the Rutgers goalie last year (a senior, now graduated, 2nd team AA), and their father also played for Rutgers. Wishful thinking on my part! Also, life would be much easier for their mother. Not to mention, Cornell scored 17 goals on his brother - CJ only had three of them. .by George64 - Other Sports

upprdeck they love the Cs in that famil Connor, Colin, CJ, Caden . Cole. but I dont see another Kirst on the SU roster? A brief Google search showed that the youngest brother, Caden, a goalie, apparently committed to Rutgers. Perhaps the reporter was mistaken, thinking grad transfer Cole was an SU freshman? Or I misheard. Anyhow, if Caden’s as good a goalie as CJ is an attacker, he coulby George64 - Other Sports

billhoward The odds Harvard is the only miscreant among all college hockey teams? Or that there's more media interest when it happens to America's #1 rated university. Planning on going to Lake Placid? My stepson and and his wife own a beautiful, fully-furnished lodge in Minerva, NY, about 80 minutes from Lake Placid and 15 minutes from Gore Mountain skiing. Sleeps 15 (6 bdrms) responsible Big Red fans. Check it out on Vrbo: If interested, you can email shannonsadik(at)gmail(dot)com. I’m attending a grandson’s wedding, or else I’d be there.
