Roy 82 BigRedHockeyFan Yes, the weight of the skater causes a high pressure on the ice surface and a solid to liquid transition that allows a skater to skate. Cold ice surfaces are fast and warm ice surfaces are slushy and slow. Extremely cold ice (e.g. -40 C) is not good for skating, but rinks are not kept that cold. Unfortunately, the ice temperature doesn't seem to be helping Cornelby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

Chris '03 Garman hadn't played back to back nights all season. He played back to back nights in Florida. Chris '03 It's a disappointing end to a season that, in the end, exceeded expectations. Agreed.by BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey
Re: Cu - 0 Yale - 6 after two - 13 years ago
Kyle Rose The coaching staff really needs to figure out how to play teams like Yale and Union, because it's clear they haven't yet got a clue. E.g., a Yale player gets the puck and *immediately* passes it off to someone else: bam! bam! bam! the puck is up ice. A Cornell player gets the puck and stands there dribbling it for a few seconds trying to figure out who to send it to. A Yale D bby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

Re: ECAC Playoffs - the AC experience/ game notes - 13 years ago
Kyle Rose TimV billhoward The warmer the ice, the slipperier the surface (right, people who stayed awake in physics?) but that probably also meant more ice shavings that slowed the puck down in real life, but regardless there's always a lot of ice shavings around the cage. Only up to a point, Bill. Agreed, small amount of water in just the right temp range makes it slipperier but a larger amoby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoffs - 13 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Jim Hyla Actually they implied it was terrible. Nothing to imply. It was God-awful. If the puck wasn't bouncing over sticks, it was stopping dead because of the slow ice. which will be worse for Yale than Cornellby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

Re: ECAC Playoffs - 13 years ago
One possible factor that could help Cornell tomorrow night is the ice. It's warm in AC and the ice is a bit slow.by BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey
Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
jeff '84 gatefan I know I'm a Colgate fan, but the way I see it is that for Cornell to have won last Saturday, he would have needed a shutout. You can't ask for much more than what he did. It was the offense's fault that you guys did not sweep. Speaking of shutouts -- seems like it's been a long time since CU hasn't thrown one shutout (not including USA development team) in a season. Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
I would bet that Schafer sticks with the standard schedule; Garman on Friday, Iles on Saturday. Both goalies are very good, even though at times one looks better than the other. The save % for the two is almost identical: Iles 0.921, Garman 0.922. For the season overall, Garman may have had the tougher schedule with 2 starts against Yale, one against Union and one against UNH. Iles moves fastby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

Re: ECAC_Semifinals and Finals_NOT ON the INTERNET - 13 years ago
JasonN95 I agree it sucks for those who don't get CBS College Sports, but I'd give the ECAC a pass on this. I think the league is fortunate to get both semis and the final onto the channel and if a condition is "no online video" that's a bullet you bite. I wonder what financial options were available to the ECAC.by BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

ftyuv Full disclose, I too am a Bruins fan. But I don't think it's ever fair to glean intent in an NHL move from really slow motion. My guess is that Chara meant to finish the check and didn't have time to think about the situation he was putting Pacioretty into and its various dangers. Granted I'm no NHL player, but I've definitely done moves in my beer league where I was only intending to pby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey
Re: Too many head and neck injuries in hockey - 13 years ago
Cactus12 NHL players are aware of the dangerous areas around the benches... especially a veteran defenseman like Chara. In my opinion, rule changes or redesign don't prevent this sort of thing (plenty of players get hurt on dangerous hits without involvement of the turnbuckle). Chara is generally not a dirty player, but he was riding Pacioretty into the boards after the puck was gone (interferencby BigRedHockeyFan - Hockey

Al DeFlorio BigRedHockeyFan RPI's tie against Q gives Cornell 4th place for the regular season and a bye, despite the Yale and Brown loses. Is this what they call "backing in?" In any case, it's a welcome development. Good grief...I just heard a replay of Yale's goals and they've installed an obnoxious train horn a la Clarkson. What's the world coming to?
