Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2012-13 Polls Men & Women - 11 years ago
I find it interesting that both polls have ECAC teams ranked 10-13 and Yale at 15. It seems rare to me to have 5 ECAC teams in the top 15 (then again I did only graduate in 2011), but they are all sitting there at the bottom. After holiday tournaments everyone should have a better feeling who is really contending and maybe one or two ECAC teams can rise a bit higher.by snert1288 - Hockey
Cornell at Quinnipiac - 11 years ago
I know this is about 4 days early, but I was just looking through some college hockey statistics and Quinnipiac's special teams play is quite striking. Through six games they are 3-2-1. On the PK they have gone 26/26 and on the PP they have gone 0/24. If ever a team wanted to just decline the power play this would be it.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Men's Preseason - 11 years ago
Trotsky Summary of pre-season predictions here. If anybody knows of others, please post them. INCH came out with their ECAC Preview yesterday. Big Red is sitting on top!by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 11 years ago
Also, I believe Notre Dame started last year ranked number 1 and feel significantly throughout the year. Some of those ranked opponents we're scheduled to play will likely move down (though I could certainly see QU or CC moving up).by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
Were you able to sign up for Redcast already? At this point it does not quite seem ready yet to allow me to create a new subscription.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
I don't agree. I am very happy for Union. They looked really good in both of their games and outplayed their opponents. They deserved to make the FF. I have met some of the terrible Union fans and had things thrown at me when walking by their student section, but overall, I think Union doing well benefits the ECAC greatly. They were regular and tournament champs from the ECAC and succeedingby snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
I agree that a player in front of the net to clean up the "garbage" was missing this year. Just need to look at Devin last year or Greening 2 years ago to see how many opportunities this presents for us. I felt like those guys were always knocking in rebounds and it shows in their stats.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
I agree that this season ended a bit slow for him. And he may have actually been better last year. Just with his size and good puck handling I always got the feeling that the AHL (not quite NHL ready) might pull him away.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
I'm curious whether we get D'Agostino back for next year. I know it's way to early to be thinking about, but I think he is a real asset to this team.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Other Regional Scores - 12 years ago
I don't know what his intentions were, but I'm fairly certain he never played lacrosse for Cornell.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Other Regional Scores - 12 years ago
And a mention of Joe Nieuwendyk and Cornell. While discussing lacrosse Melrose states that Nieuwendyk went to Cornell because he wanted to play lacrosse.by snert1288 - Hockey
Long Island-Suffolk - 12 years ago
For anyone out east on Long Island, the Buffalo Wild Wings in Centereach has agreed to show the game. There will be no volume, but there should be several Stony Brook School of Medicine students there who are Cornell grads!by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Michigan already assuming victoy over Cornell - 12 years ago
I believe they also say that the ECAC has only won 3 national championships ever. While the ECAC is not taking the championship often we do have more than 3. I believe 4 were won by current members of the ECAC while in the ECAC. In addition to that RPI has one from the 1950's and BU won a few while in the ECAC.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: NC$$ Regionals_Going to Green Bay v. Michigan - 12 years ago
I also would be interested in a viewing location in NYC. I'm usually content to watch on my own on Long Island, but this weekend I can probably escape to the city for a night Though, I do think it would be hard to convince a sports bar to put it on with 3 basketball games on. I'm new to downstate, but does the Cornell Club ever organize an event to watch the hockey games when on TV?by snert1288 - Hockey

I really like that Aaron. Looking good!by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: NC$$ Regionals_Going to Green Bay v. Michigan - 12 years ago
I cannot speak to the crowds in Providence in '03, but I do know that there were a lot of conflicts during our series in Albany in 2010. I believe that was the same weekend that bball was playing in the Sweet Sixteen in Syracuse. And students may not have wanted to spend both weekends of their spring break in Albany, NY.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
In 2009 I remember our series against RPI was the first weekend of break and alot of people stuck around. Though it would certainly be fewer students, I don't think it would look empty at all.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Jeopardy disappointment - 12 years ago
10 years ago? Maybe 2 weeks ago there was a clue about a Greek city that is also the name of a city where an Ivy league school is located in New York State...by snert1288 - Other Sports
Re: Atlantic City Roll Call - 12 years ago
Unfortunately, medical school this year will inhibit me from attending on Friday. However, there is a good chance I will come down for Saturday's games.by snert1288 - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Dartmouth Game 1 (Friday) Pregame - 12 years ago
I believe that was Evan Barlow who went coast to coast in order to make it a 3-2 game back in 2009 against Princeton. Then, Riley Nash scored the tying goal with less than a minute to go. I think Gallagher was playing with the high ankle sprain during the 2010 post season run. Although, I don't recall any important tying goals.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Sunday night ECAC First Round - 12 years ago
Cornell hockey players tweet as well. In fact, I think most of the ECAC teams tweet. The ECAC blog "1989 and Still Waiting" has a weekly segment on ECAC Hockey Tweets of the Week. ECAC Tweets of the Weekby snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: March 2012 - 12 years ago
Just saw a note that said the game against BU will be streamed on Redcast for FREE. Now, we all know that you get what you pay for and with the men home Saturday night it's a great weekend to head to Ithaca. But, this is a nice surprise for those of us who can't make it.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinal Choices-The Real Ones - 12 years ago
Since it seems to be ok to discuss PWR potentials, UMass is hanging on by a thread. If they lose their next game they should fall out of TUC, in which case Colgate dropping out would bring us to 5-1-3 against TUC. A great record, but below 10 games so we would need another game against Union, Harvard, or Quinnipiac (or Yale maybe?). Should be an interesting next few weeks.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Sunday night ECAC First Round - 12 years ago
Favorite quote from Yale game: "Everyone including me and near capacity crowd at Ingalls thought that was a goal...well not really near capacity" Not only does this quote capture how often he screams "GOAL" even if Yale hasn't scored, but also captures their fan support that is just not there.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinal Results_Sat 3/3 - 12 years ago
You can get all 3 games tonight for $9. And from watching last night it is very easy to flip between then and even watch 2 with one PIP. I was impressed by the set up.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinal Choices - 12 years ago
Then again is there any team in the league where you would go in feeling that Cornell was overmatched? While it appears that Cornell can lose to (tie) any team, I am also confident that Cornell can beat anyone in this league. Even Colgate, who we arguably looked worst against, I would bet that Cornell takes care of business.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 St. Lawrence 3 (ot) - 12 years ago
I believe last time we played Union we faced their back-up. So, putting in 4 goals, while still nice is not as impressive.by snert1288 - Hockey
Re: Kevin Boothe - 12 years ago
Phantom or not that penalty erased alot of momentum. In addition, he had an offsides in the 4th quarter on a 3rd down in NE's side of the field. That drive was not going great for the giants, but they were moving into FG range and ended up having to settle for a punt. But none of it matters now.by snert1288 - Other Sports
Re: Kevin Boothe - 12 years ago
I will just say the Kevin is damn lucky the Giants won because he would make a very nice scapegoat...GO GIANTS!!by snert1288 - Other Sports
