Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Was that slashing? - 26 days ago
Was it a slash? 100% even though from my angle at the opposite end of the rink I couldn't really tell but I'll go with those who had a better angle. Should it have been called? No shot. There were ample opportunities for these refs to do their jobs and actually enforce the rules all game and they didn't. A penalty is a penalty and should be called no matter what in my opinion but I'd ratherby coz - Hockey

BearLoverNotably, Gio is our only recruit who was listed in the Central Scouting Midterm Rankings, and I believe that a team must sign a drafted player within four years of the draft or that player becomes a free agent. Which means, if Gio is drafted and he plays a year of junior hockey, and the team that drafts him wants to sign him, there will be tremendous pressure on Gio to sign before his seby coz - Hockey

Give My Regards I'd sure like to know where ESPN+ got the idea that Cornell was 11-4 in the ECAC. The women are 12-5, maybe that sort of explains it. Every broadcast is school-produced. I won't get into the minutiae but they forgot to change them from last Saturday's women's game.by coz - Hockey

Trotsky Interesting they took Stienburg too. Their prospect pool is incredibly thin up front. Not too surprising they signed one of their own draft picks.by coz - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
From the Release One of Vaughan's most impressive achievements was leading the program to the ECAC Hockey tournament on a near-annual basis. In his three decades at the helm, Colgate made 27 appearances in the playoffs and reached the ECAC championship weekend on 14 occasions. Not exactly the most impressive stat.by coz - Hockey

Sam Malinski signs with Colorado Inked! ✍We have signed Cornell forward, Ben Berard, to an amateur tryout agreement! arugula Interesting about Steinburg. Wonder whether that means he’s not interested in Colorado or vice versa. I would imagine the injury has complicated Colorado's evaluation of him. If I were him Colorado is a good spot to be. There's going to be some turnover in that bottom 6 and with an expensive core locked up they'll need cheap ELCs to fill the depth.by coz - Hockey

Dafatone I think, though I'm not sure, that when the broadcast shows replays, they're just showing whatever on the screen in the rink. It's the opposite actually. The broadcast will show a lot more replays especially of road team goals. The video board just pulls the broadcast feed. So that's entirely on the video board operator for showing that. upprdeck replays are fine.. just dont show reby coz - Hockey
Re: Colgate @ Cornell - 1 year ago
upprdeck marty Check out the near goal at 12:25 of the highlights video. I just dont get how dumb athletics is to show these replays in real time during a live game. Colgate had no TO the only way to get the refs to challenge was to ask, but seeing a replay that shows how close it was makes it much easier to get a ref to do a challange and if a team has a TO they might challenge and then whoby coz - Hockey
Re: Colgate @ Cornell - 1 year ago
They also go swept by a pretty mediocre NMU team and a bad UVM team (if you count the SO). It does feel like for Vaughan's team that if the goaltending isn't good the team isn't good. Gylander is pretty good, so I'd expect a close game. On the other hand, I don't think their defense is very good and outside of the Youngs they don't have a lot of offensive firepower.by coz - Hockey

Trotsky "That guy" is supposed to be Berard. The last time we had a dominating power play was the Gallagher-Greening juggernaut. We have been flailing about since then, without consistency. It's certainly been a missing piece. I love that we give and go now and don't always retreat behind the net. Trotsky coz Trotsky Effective special teams are a necessity when we get deep into the tourneys, though, because the great teams will find a way to exploit weakness there, and then that will live in our heads and affect our game style. I meant as more of an either or choice but yeah I obviously want our PP to be good. I'm just dubious that it is.The puck movement and tempo are solid against weakby coz - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. RPI 1/7/23 - 1 year ago
abmarks upprdeck Going into the RPI game we had the #1 PP in ECAC games.. And 15th nationally. And against what I would consider our toughest opponents so far (UMD, QU, Clarkson, UConn, and Sucks) we are a cool 1 for 22. Now you can argue that was early in the season and they've gotten into a groove as they've gotten more comfortable, but the PP has to start showing up in games that we're nby coz - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. RPI 1/7/23 - 1 year ago
Trotsky One of the only qualms I had about The SystemTM was that with so few goals for we were always just a screw up or a fluke bounce or two away from allowing bad teams back in our games. This is No Longer the Case. This team is still quite capable of playing shut down D with a late lead, but they have enough offense to get some breathing room (or as we just saw recover from a lousy stretch)by coz - Hockey

Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
Trotsky Jim Hyla So statistically it probably means that it's a lousy system, since it doesn't differentiate the classes that well. Albeit I don't know the real stats of their system. Or the ECAC tends to sit in the middle of a normal distribution of talent for D-1, which seems reasonable to me. I would guess it tends to fall somewhere in the middle of those 2, just like it does in footballby coz - Hockey
Re: Alumni News 2018-19 - 4 years ago
I agree with you're first two points. Ryan is definitely better off. He's in his prime now and his analytics have always been pretty good. LA is a good place for him since Martinez is the only Lefty that's for sure ahead of him on the depth chart as Forbort is garbage. Don't be surprised if he ends up playing 20 mins/G this year.by coz - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 18-19 - 4 years ago
There was some thought that Carolina had they signed him would've burned the year and made him eligible. The Rangers I guess are in a different situation. Regardless he's gone and I feel a lot better about next season.by coz - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 18-19 - 4 years ago
Trotsky Good. Good. Can't imagine the Rags would trade anything above zero value if they didn't already have an understanding that he would sign. A little surprised it's not a sign-and-trade, but perhaps that introduces complexities they wanted to avoid? I believe if they sign him this now it will automatically burn a year on his ELC and make him eligible for an expansion draft in 2021by coz - Hockey

jkahn Interestingly, Joakim Ryan had only about 4 minutes of ice time in the first three periods last night, probably most of that if not all being in the first period. But, he was out there fairly regularly in overtime, ending with 9:34 played. And he was +1, being on ice for the game winner. Ryan is actually one of the more underrated players on the Sharks. He just doesn't play a lot becausby coz - Hockey
