Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 11 York 1 - 17 years ago
CKinslandIt seemed like there were a heck of a lot of penalties. Showing off my lack of hockey stat finding ability, I'm going to ask: How many minutes of this game were played 5x5? Using stats from: I figure just under 25 minutes, which is more 5x5 time that I would have guessed. I received an e-mail directed to Cornell Alumni, sent at 11:30 AM Saturday. I almost deleted it as SPAM - I didn't recognize the Peter Meinig name. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Clarkson postgame thread (no scores updates) - 19 years ago
Some random thoughts from a weary and hoarse fan: Thank you, Dave McKee, pipes, and crossbar for keeping us in the game. Thank you, Topher Scott for the VERY big goal and for salvaging the evening. NO thanks to Peter Feola whose calls seem truly random or maybe based in a fantasy I certainly don't understand. Are there ANY good officials in the East? Re: Cornell 4 Union 1 - 19 years ago
I was across the ice, so we couldn't really see what was happening, but we all were very concerned about how long it took to get her out of there. Does anyone know why it took so long? Even after they had the gurney waiting at the top of the stairs (and it took quite a while for that to happen), it seemed like an awful long time before they tried to move her out. Canada 6 - Russia 1 We've been grateful for all the hockey on TV lately - too bad the final WJC games weren't among them. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 0 - 19 years ago
They took their time-out to get organized at the end, having pulled Hyphen for an extra skater. But they took the face-off with only 5 skaters on the ice. It must have been 15 or 20 seconds before the 6th guy got into the play. Cornell is looking good thus far, though none of the teams we've played have looked very strong. Let's Go RED !! If it's Brown, flush it down! Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey

Isn't that WGBTHOOY? "We're gonna beat the Gel out of you!" That's the next change we'll have to make to keep the Language Nazis off our backs.... Looking forward to having lots to cheer about in March... Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey

While Matt Underhill has gotten plenty of good press for his local fund-raising efforts, this story reflects a different side - It's been a rough year for the Florence Pride. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey

Re: Brown 3 Cornell 3 Final OT - 20 years ago
Jon Gleed seemed to be cut in the neck, and there were many spots of blood on the ice in front of Sect. D, between the blue line and the faceoff circle. He got quite a bit of attention from the trainer when he got back to the bench. I think there were a lot of blown calls tonight - Cook's interference call was awful. They blew several offsides calls as well - I thought the many errors went boby Ken71 - Hockey

Keys in a one-goal game - 20 years ago
I try not to diss our fans, but the "Lynah Faithful" (according to their T-shirts) who jingled their keys with a minute to go in a ONE GOAL game amazed me. Is this (over)confidence or stupidity? The chorus of "It's all your fault" that they received after the Mercyhurst goal wasn't entirely fair, but I thought our "fans" understood the game a bit better than that.by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Bowling Green 1 @ Cornell 1 - 20 years ago
According to Adam Wodon's broadcast partner: (1) - BGSU goalie (2) Matt Moulson (3) Charlie Cook McKee didn't have much of a chance on their goal - the pass to the attacker was right on, and he was unchecked in the slot. McKee made some fine saves, especially toward the end of the 3rd period, when BG controlled too much of the action. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Freedom of Speech - 20 years ago
I like to think of myself as a long-time fan of Cornell Hockey, proud of a strong program that's brought us all a lot to cheer about over the 36+ years I've been in Ithaca. I've been proud of the teams, proud of the coaches and support staff and proud of the fans. Since my first years here, we've been especially proud of our creativity and fanaticism as fans. Re: western michigan university @ cornell game 1 - 20 years ago
There's a "FREE ARCHIVE" version of the Friday game available at: It's not entirely fair to compare a live streamed event to an archived one, but it shows the views that have been discussed in this thread and gives a decent idea of what the webcast is like. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: i2sports webcast - 20 years ago
Due to health problems, I had to settle for watching from home (in Ithaca) over i2, with a RoadRunner connection. There were very few pauses for rebuffering - the game streamed almost flawlessly. They used two cameras, one in the Press Box, one on the platform next to Section A and did a pretty decent job of switching between the two. The audio levels were somewhat uneven - this may be firstby Ken71 - Hockey
Re: What is Faithful? - 20 years ago
I first heard the term "Lynah Faithful" in Sam Woodside's broadcasts of the games on WHCU in the late 60s. Sam was a classic. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey

Re: alumni game - 20 years ago
The line to get into Lynah extended past Bartels when we got there about 6:45. It was impressive. The hockey wasn't great - especially toward the end, the "older" players (younger than I am) were pretty winded. They wanted it to end in a tie and it did, 13-13. They wanted to raise a lot of money for Mike Tallman '90, and I have to think they did that as well. Our new Prez (Jeffby Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Janet Reno - 21 years ago
Who could have ever expected the "Good Goalie - Bad Goalie - Janet Reno" cheer? I sat about 5 rows in front of her. She was there early, and stayed through the salute at the end. She seemed to have a great time. The Red looked very motivated and kept moving all the time through both games this weekend. Last year's Snapple Winner/Whiner ad - which promoted a contest that the ad itself said ended 10/31/01, yet ran all season long (into March '02) - is my nominee. "Miss Hoover, this cap says I'm a winner too!" Ken '71 (glad I don't have to pay to listen to the ads)by Ken71 - Hockey
Re: Game-worn uniforms - 21 years ago
I don't know whether the terms have changed, but I got my game-worn jersey quickly last year (just as the team was leaving for Lake Placid) from Teagle for $100. No tax, no delivery charge. You have to choose from the ones available. No names on the back, but the ECAC and CCM logos are present. Ken '71by Ken71 - Hockey

After I sent Mike a note explaining my anger at the AD and my discomfort in citing it to Shane Palahicky (who called as part of the fund-raiser), I got a reply from Mike which said, in part Bottom line is both sides could have handled things better and I too wish they would resolve it, however I am not getting into the middle of it until the season is over. Re: hockey fund raiser - 21 years ago
I agree with Jim that the AD's refusal to discuss the matter only compounds the problem. However, I worry about the "ever escalating" tactics Jim mentions. While I'd love to see free access to broadcasts and online video, when Mike told me that our protest is hurting his recruiting, I started to think we've got our eyes on the wrong prize. Re: hockey fund raiser - 21 years ago
I received a call from Shane Palahicky last night and explained why I feel I can't give now. I followed this up by sending an e-mail to Mike, attaching my 11/8/02 e-mail to Andy Noel, which has now gone unanswered for two months. I want to support Cornell Hockey, but I feel strongly that we deserve some answer to our pleas and expressions of outrage. I hope that citing this as a reason for wiby Ken71 - Hockey

Though Brian was a 1971 classmate, I don't know him at all. I do know that he was recruited by Ned Harkness, who won a NCAA Championship the Spring before we arrived here, and who guided Brian and the rest of the team through the fabulous 29-0 Championship season in 1969-70. While the end of his coaching tenure here might carry some unpleasant thoughts, his time as a student here is someby Ken71 - Hockey
