Re: 2022-23 Men's Schedule - 1 year ago
BearLover French Rage BearLover Last years fans were screaming for 2.5 hours and dying of thirst—not even water was permitted. What was the total number of fatalities? You can round to the nearest hundred if the exact number if just too high to get right. “Dying of thirst” is a common English expression and is not meant to be taken literally. Don't you mean "dying with thirst"?by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

dbilmes We move up 8 spots to No. 2 in the final media poll of the season. Five Ivies ranked in top 10. Wow, six "Northern" teams in the top ten, none of which is named S****use, plus one "Western".by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 2 years ago
Dafatone Most hated for me is Dartmouth in a landslide, but I don't know that I'd call them a top three rival. There's definitely a different between hatred and rivalry. I can't stand Quinnipiac, but they don't deserve to be anyone's rival. As a traditionalist, I'd say Cornell's biggest rivals would/should be 1. Harvard 2. BU 3. Clarkson If we're limiting it to the ECAC, Colgate wouldby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: New baseball field site approval received - 2 years ago
upprdeck yeah. if they fixed the schedule to play in better times.. i get the idea to be done by memorial. buy you could move it back 2-3 weeks as well. been to a ton of games over the years but i dont recall as many really bad weather games but 30-40 yrs ago. longer season causes these issues. Whatever we do, we should still make sure it's 35 degrees and freezing rain when we play Syracuseby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
Re: Adam Mitchell (Colgate '05) retires - 2 years ago
RichH jtwcornell91 He was previously on the Hannover Scorpions (yes, named after the band), winning the DEL title in 2010, They skate out to "Rock You Like A Hurricane," right?? I hope so, but I never managed to see either the Scorpions or the Indians play in the year I was in Hannover, since we had a two-year-old keeping us occupied.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Adam Mitchell (Colgate '05) retires - 2 years ago
We don't have an "opponents' alumni in the pros" section, but I thought I'd put this here. Adam Mitchell, Colgate '05, just announced his retirement after 17 seasons playing professional hockey in Germany. He just won the DEL2 championship with Löwen Frankfurt, which he captained from 2018-2021 (which is why I know about his activities; his name and number are on my replica jersey), eby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 3x3 OT proven silly - 2 years ago
marty abmarks marty AHCA. There was lots of debate on this board about 3x3 OT and how little OT wins were valued. The article Marty found has has some actual quantitative analysis and is the best argument I've seen for playing traditional overtime and not this silly stuff. TLDR: ot wins and losses are irrelevant with current rules and might as well have just been ties. Here's the poby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

blackwidow Exactly this. Cornell loyalty >>> very unlikely pro hockey career Not everyone expects to play in the bigs. We had a player a few years back whose plan was to play college hockey well enough to play pro hockey in Europe, because it would give him the opportunity to live in another country.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Al DeFlorio RichH Trotsky RichH They will *always* be Mankato to me. Dartmouth Indians. A more accurate parallel is Clarkson College of Technology. Or Quinnipiac College. Or New Haven State Teachers College, now Southern Connecticut State College. Everyone's movin' on up. Or our Ivy travel partner King's College. Or my employer, the Rochester Athaneum. But I was also referring to Mankby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

CU77 And Denver scores 2, and then 3 empty-netters, to win 5-1 So the Belt and the National Championship are united once again. (Do I recall correctly that we had the Belt when the season was called off in 2020 and therefore kept it until Fall 2021?)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

George64 Scersk '97One of my many concerns regarding the Roosevelt Island project is whether it will cause a brain drain in science and engineering from the Ithaca campus to the great detriment of the University. Frankly, a Cornell without engineers rubbing shoulders with hotelies, architects (even the misled ones), etc., etc. is not Cornell. I agree with you that the great strength of Cornellby jtwcornell91 - John Spencer Is Dead

BearLover Trotsky RichH Trotsky CAS Quinnipiac’s top 6 scorers this year are all either seniors or grad transfers, so next year’s team will look a lot different than this year’s team.Unless Perets leaves I think they're still gonna rock. Yeah, they’re one of those teams who you think “as soon as this class leaves, they’ll come back to earth,” and then they get another 2-3 all-league caliber plaby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

billhoward No question RIT is a pretty good school. Maybe RIT joining ECAC will raise its profile with recruits. Atlantic Hockey where RIT resides now has 10 schools and other than Army and Air Force, the only other school you think as a name sports school is Holy Cross. RIT has 17,000 undergraduate students; the others have 1,700 (AIC) to 4,400 (Army, Air Force). Academically, RIT is at 117 in tby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

upprdeck jtwcornell91 So apparently espn+ is not enough to get us the NC$$s? I watched the end of regulation of the ND-ND game, and "sign in with your TV provider" came up while they were waiting for the replay. the game is not on espn+ anyway But the ESPN app let me watch a half-hour or so under the espn+ tab, which was apparently a trial. Re: NCAA hockey 2022 tournament - TU --> MVP Arena - 2 years ago
billhoward The Albany arena, site of the (East?) NCAA regional, is now MVP Arena. It was Times Union Center 2007-2021. I wondered for years how long a newspaper would hold naming rights to a place with more seats than the TU soon would have subscribers. WIki The naming rights of the arena were sold to Pepsi in 1997 and it was known as Pepsi Arena from 1997 to 2006.In May 2006, the naming righby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Jim Hyla jtwcornell91 Russia's hockey program has been consistently infuriating for the last 25 years or so, even (espeically) when they're pretending to play under another name. How about, rather they're given the chance to play under another name. Let's put blame on the offender and the enabler. Agreed. It's reasonable to allow individuals not implicated in the doping scandal to competby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky Iceberg Some kind of bizarre situation with Mankato/Bemidji. OT goal awarded that turns out to not be a goal and the teams have already left the arena after Mankato was crowned as the CCHA conference tournament winner. Game will continue in OT at some pointI guess the Mavs eventually won again. This is really the reductio ad absurdum of this video replay business. The refs had reviby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky DafatoneIndeed. Other team hatreds come and go. Dallas Cowboys in the 90s, Duke basketball in the 00s. Braves hatred is eternal. The chop is racist, they built their team on human trafficking, and the Ozzie Albies contract should be voided as unconscionable. Cowboys in the 70s. Pedo State. USMNT Hoops since we bought the Olympics. I loathe Bettman's hot climate hockey garbage tby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 2022 Takeaways - Root for any ECAC-in-NCAAs team - 2 years ago
BearLover billhoward We've been talking about how few Ivy teams have won the NCAAs since 1970. We're in the ECAC as well as the Ivy League and there's also RPI and Union, neither of them academic slouches, who've won titles. I would like to see Clarkson win Saturday over Quinnipiac and both go to the NCAAs. (Clarkson may have to win both games to go.) Q has a chance to go all the way. We may notby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

nshapiro scoop85 redice imafrshmn Trotsky Colgate sweeps Yale and will face us. Colgate announcer gives a shout-out to "my friend Jason Weinstein," and wishes Mike Schafer a healthy return. CU2007 Top 3 teams in the league all lost in regulation. Could be a wild ECAC tourney! Clarkson lost to Yale in OT, so they got a point. If I'm reading it right, that means they can still catch Q, since they're only 3 points back and hold the tiebreaker.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
