Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: CU- QU game analysis - 22 years ago
I think it is also fair to say that the way we play defense against UNH will bear no relation to the way we play defense against QU with a 6 goal lead.by ugarte - Hockey
CU- QU game analysis - 22 years ago
Curiously enough, I have nothing to say. QU wasn't a good enough team to use as a way to gauge Cornell's performance, so this thread is really to solicit everyone else's opinions. (And no fair for the folks in Worcester to say that they talked all about it at a bar after the game. I'm already jealous enough.) Except: the defense was spectacular. We didn't let them anywhere near Underhill. Theby ugarte - Hockey
Re: Watching in NYC? - 22 years ago
I watched with Reno '01, Megan '01 and a group of '93s at PACC. They gave us the big screen until the bball started, and a good number of TVs even after the basketball was going on. Unfortunately, they got a little confused on the networks and we were watching the UMD-Niagara women's game for a little while thinking that it was between game filler. When we got it straightened out, we had missby ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA GAME 1 - 22 years ago
Don't feel bad - they credited it to Froelich on screen. The QU non-goal was waived off because it was kicked in.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Mazer - 22 years ago
The first book of sports trivia that my partents bought for me (after they realized that I had an "interest-in-sports" gene that is quite recessive in my family) was by Bill Mazer. I still open it up from time to time. My parents didn't know who he was, so I thought it was really cool when I made the connection from the book on my shelf to the guy on Channel 5.by ugarte - Hockey

I'm with you. This ever growing list is making me ever more jealous.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Watching in NYC? - 22 years ago
I live in Brooklyn, so I don't plan on making the trip uptown. The Park Avenue Country Club (on the SE corner of 26th (27th?) & Park Ave. S.) was very accommodating for the ECAC finals (after the bball ended, they turned on the sound for the CU/HU game), and I am going to go back. If anyone is interested in joining me, send me an email. I will call about getting a table. I don't planby ugarte - Hockey

And did you watch Duke - Indiana last night? I am pretty sure "miracles" happen.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Editing messages - 22 years ago
Age, editing works fine. If it hadn't there would have been a pretty rude insult here, and a second message apologizing for the first.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Pack more than a t-shirt - 22 years ago
I would take a rubber match against BU. CU - Maine isn't interesting to me independent of the fact that it is the national semis.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: A penny for your thoughts. . . - 22 years ago
Holy crap, Ben. Stop putting in disclaimers. If people don't know you are joking, that is their problem. If they are going to go ballistic every time they see a negative reference to their school, that is also their problem.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: We have no chance against UNH - 22 years ago
OK, let me get this straight. You come onto a Cornell board. Write a subliterate entry in which you appear to be pretending to be a disconsolate Cornell alum. You are then told in myriad ways that you are unwelcome and a cretin - because you are unwelcome and the evidence suggests that you are a cretin. And then you rail against how "pretentious" we are? Re: Placid Hangover - 22 years ago
(I hope they did a long enough wide shot on TV for the viewers to take it all in.) No such luck. The only crowd shot they did was of the "Go Big Red" body paint folks. They made the "ANSKY" guys look sexy.by ugarte - Hockey

Games featuring Maine will be blacked out in the state of Maine Even if there is a sellout? Does Fox Sports just hate lobstermen?by ugarte - Hockey

Can't go - I'm a slave to The Man. I will be watching here, and cheering with all of you.by ugarte - Hockey

I don't travel, so who finishes in first?by ugarte - Hockey
Re: The actual GAME against Harvard - 22 years ago
Chalk it up to my ignorance and accept my apology. As far as I am concerned "server crashed" = "power outage" = "underpants gnomes stole my connection cable for profit (stage 3)."by ugarte - Hockey

Excellent. Have they announced the time of the CU-QC game?by ugarte - Hockey
Re: 2001-02 team - 22 years ago
This season was not a failure. It was a thrill to be a part of, even if the ECAC tournament ended disappointingly. I wish the team the best of luck in the NCAA tournament, and hope that they can surpass expectations and knock off a very strong New Hampshire team. (I can't even bring myself to face the prospect of losing to QC. )Beating UNH will get us to a rematch that we want (BU) a chanceby ugarte - Hockey
Re: The actual GAME against Harvard - 22 years ago
I thought that the problems with our play outstripped the officiating problems. But, if you want to know what I thought of the officiating, I thought they were generally very hands off. There was a lot of mucking around that didn't get called on either side, and Harvard got a slight advantage from it. There were two bad calls that clearly went against Cornell, but it would be unfair to say thatby ugarte - Hockey
The actual GAME against Harvard - 22 years ago
Because the server crashed (and most of the usual suspects were in LP anyway), there wasn't any discussion about the game on the board. (By the way, thanks to Age for getting it back up so quickly.) OK, so we are in the tournament and the past is the past but. . . We were outplayed on Saturday. I thought that we were lucky to last as long as we did, and it was very disappointing to see. Re: ECAC idiocy - 22 years ago
I'll give you the "third place" quote. That is really embarrassing. But I have to disagree with your frustration over "nationally ranked Engineers". It sounds to me like the author of the article is only calling RPI "nationally ranked" as a way of praising the Big Red defense. In other words, Cornell didn't shut down a team of scrubs, Cornell blanked a "naby ugarte - Hockey
Re: Red on TV in NYC? - 22 years ago
Thanks for the tip. Blondie's was packed, and wouldn't put on the hockey. I would have minded less if St. John's didn't play so poorly. . .by ugarte - Hockey
Re: THOUGHTS ON NCAA - 22 years ago
I don't see why you are pissed at the HE columnist. He makes a good point from the HE perspective: a Cornell loss could cost an HE team a bid, but a Cornell win could cost an HE team a bye. In that analysis, no matter what happens to Cornell in the ECAC tournament somebody from HE would pay the price. "Pick your poison" is exactly what an HE fan would have to do when deciding whether tby ugarte - Hockey
