Re: ECAC 2015-16 - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla redice Trotsky SwampyI'm probably wrong with this, but wasn't that because he chose to do something else first? Law school, I think.I thought Law School was why he took a hiatus in the middle of his NHL career. +1 And he did play a little AHL hockey.. I recall seeing a newspaper article about a Rochester Amerks game against Montreal's AHL team, where Dryden had 60+ saves in a 6-6 tieby jkahn - Hockey

BearLover redice marty redice drs48 It astounds me that "Faithful" are accepting/defending mediocrity, I'm done......fire him. At a bare minimum, I would insist on new asst/assoc coaches to bring new ideas/strategies & recruiting possibilities into the mix.... If Schafer refuses, show him the door! Yes, exactly, we have to get rid of the bums that brought us Angelo, Vandelaan,by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Jason Moy's final - 8 years ago
marty Jason has to make a switch this year that wasn't even on the radar for me. None of the host schools are in the tourney. (Sorry Goofers, and Brown!) RPI (Union?!?) is not the host in Albany. The ECAC is the host there. I think one puts Q in Albany because ECAC hosts, but Jason had them in Worcester initially. He did move them to Albany for Boston school attendance in Worcester which nowby jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Possibilities - 8 years ago
Michigan wins the Big Ten, which clinches an NCAA bid for Yale. Had Minnesota and UMD won, Yale would have been eliminated. UMD currently trsils 2-1, make that 3-1 St. Cloud just scored as I was typing this.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: NCAA Tournament Possibilities - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla Trotsky On the USCHO ECAC thread there is a claim that there is a scenario where Dartmouth wins it all and we still get in (giving the ECAC five slots). Can anybody confirm this? Yes, here. We end up tied with Dartmouth at 14. It only works if they beat Harvard in finals, not if it's SLU. And it still looks like Minn-Duluth needs 2 losses. Also Mich Tech either needs to win it aby jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Possibilities - 8 years ago
It looks like the scenarios that get us there are basically: Michigan wins the Big Ten, UMD loses both the semi and consolation, Michigan Tech wins its tournament or loses its semi, and neither Dartmouth or St. Lawrence win the ECAC. Obviously I haven't run them all, but if anyone has some examples of where the above doesn't work for us or where something else does get us in, let us all know.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Here's some perspective on what could happen: After the 2013 Maine fired Tim Whitehead who had a 250-171-54 record in 12 seasons, although the team struggled in his last few seasons. Right now they are 8-22-6 and #52 in Pairwise. Sure, I'd like to be better than #20, but given the competitive scenario on recruiting, scholarships, academic standards, etc., I'm certainly not pushing for a coachiby jkahn - Hockey

Cornell recruit Cam Donaldson is one of several college recruits mentioned in this game write-up. "Donaldson, a '98 senior left wing committed to Cornell, was the best player for the visitors. He's very quick and crafty and has continued to get better. He was a very nice pickup for the Big Red.'by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Polls 2015-16 - 8 years ago
Our current pairwise position is quite precarious. If you add .0175 to our RPI, we'd move from 14 to 13. If you subtract .0175 from our RPI, we'd drop to 26th. So there are a lot of teams that could pass us, and few we are likely to pass. We need a winning streak to make the NCAA's (or just win the ECAC tournament).by jkahn - Hockey

billhoward Michigan 6, Penn State 3 at the Garden Saturday 1/13/16. Attendance - 13,479 That should be Saturday 1/30/16. It was part of a Basketball/Hockey doubleheader with the bball game at noon. The schools sold tickets including both games. Penn State charged $80 for a student ticket which included both games, transportation to and from campus and a t-shirt.by jkahn - Hockey

Trotsky Everblades in the news. The player in the article played for UNH against us in the Estero 2013 tournament, and then transferred to Quinnipiac and played for them in 2014-15 (so he likely graduated from UNH as he avoided sitting out a year).by jkahn - Hockey

Brenden Locke of the Cobourg Cougars (OJHL) has committed to Cornell. Per the Cougars' website he's a forward (Heisenberg has him at L/C) 16g-18a-30PIM in 41 games and is 5'10" and 176 lbs. Congrats and welcome to Brenden.by jkahn - Hockey

RichH Robb Al DeFlorio I'll be happy if we get to worry about any set of seedings. If this were October, I'd agree with you. If we fall out of the tournament at this point.... We still have more than 50% of of the season to go, including league playoffs. And this has proven to be a strong league. I'm not counting on an at-large bid at this point. I'm with Al and would be very happy if we playby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Not Dead Yet Poll - 8 years ago
Al DeFlorio Probably was Ed Vaughn '58, who lived in Orange, a New Haven suburb, and was the alum who came to our home 55 years ago to recruit me. Great guy. Didn't know he played hockey at Cornell until I saw him in the photo on page 23 of Adam's book. Would see him at all Cornell athletic events at Yale but did not see him at the Bowl this past season. Beeeej Swampy UML's #8, we're #10. Nice to get the respect, as little as it actually counts for in the real world. And luckily, our next two games are against #1 and (probably) #3 (unless unranked tOSU pulls off a big upset), so at least if we lose those, we shouldn't tank too badly in the voting afterward. You're very optimistic about our result in the Providence game, eh!by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Estero 2015 - 8 years ago
The Cornell sections have been 113-115 the last dozen years or so - and they'll have that info at the box office so you can just ask for seats in the Cornell section or pretty much anywhere else in the rink that you'd like. I'm typically at the top of 113. The seats always seem to be way less than 50% occupied, although a sizable amount of folks seem to come for only one game or the other. Therby jkahn - Hockey

Scersk '97 Al DeFlorio TimV Didn't Harry Orr wear 19? Jim? Al?Sure did. How many times was Abbott first-team All-American? Glad to see Doug Ferguson rate a jersey this time, although Tredway was a great one, too. 21 and 23 were curious choices. Have to go with Chartrand or Bâby for 21. (Or John Hughes, if he actually wore the number.) 23? Ross Lemon. John Hughes wore 10 as a sophomore,by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Which game worn jerseys do you have? - 8 years ago
Beeeej mortenkriek That's a very nice touch, the autograph. Does Dryden still attend games occasionally? Well, the night he signed the jersey was the last time I personally saw him in Lynah, in late 2006. I can't say whether he's been there for a game since. Dryden did attend the 2013 MSG game with his good friend and agent Art Kaminsky, just a week before Art passed away.by jkahn - Hockey

Trotsky from a brief scan: Round 6, Pick 24 (175 overall) Tyler Moy, Harvard --> Nashville I've always wondered if he's Jason's son. Speaking of possible relations, an Adam Gaudette in the USHL was taken in the fifth round. No and no. Tyler Moy is from California and Bob Gaudet is not Gaudette.by jkahn - Hockey
