Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
Maybe it's just the microphone placement, but Cornell sounds well represented fan-wise.by Tub(a) - Other Sports
Re: Pittsburgh viewing - 16 years ago
You might want to try Buffalo Blues on S. Highland St. in Shadyside. They would probably be willing to put the game on a TV, but I would call ahead and ask.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1 at Harvard 2 postgame - 16 years ago
kaelistusOn another note: The crowd was horrible. The place had a lot of empty seats. I was really surprised how ineffective Cornell was in filling up their arena compared to years past. I'm pretty sure those empty seats were season ticket holders who decided to go to New Haven instead and didn't/couldn't sell their seats.by Tub(a) - Hockey

Seems like the reporter had easy access to someone that could have corrected those errors. Perhaps the PM clearing things up got lost in the internets.by Tub(a) - Hockey

I remember reading that Comcast was bringing the NHL Network to the US, but apparently that was a lie.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: On to the semis: Cornell 12, Albany 11 (recap thread) - 17 years ago
schoaffLiz '05My favorite play of the game (already mentioned on the game thread): Max Siebald chasing down an Albany player and diving to take Albany and his stick down, somersaulting to get back up while Cornell picked up the ball and ran it in on offense. AMAZING play. AMAZING game. Totally worth the drive And my favorite comment from the announcers during the game. Right before thatby Tub(a) - Other Sports

Re: Cornell vs. Towson - where to watch - 17 years ago
I might actually be able to make it for at least a part of it, if all my flights/rides into the city are on time (fat chance). How long would it take to walk there from the Metro?by Tub(a) - Other Sports

Re: NHL Rules / Detroit - San Jose - 17 years ago
The refs would never call an intentional one if it was up to them. That's why they had to take out the discretion. See: 2001 playoffs when Darius Kasparitis literally picked up the puck from the ice in his defensive zone and threw it over the glass. No call. I think it's fine. When used in conjunction with the no change after an icing rule, it forces defensemen to use a bit more skill in reby Tub(a) - Other Sports
Re: NHL Rules / Detroit - San Jose - 17 years ago
The puck over the glass thing has been called since last year. The Carolina Hurricanes scored the series winning goal of the Eastern Conference Finals on a PP from that penalty.by Tub(a) - Other Sports

The Penguins are moving. To a new arena in Pittsburgh.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
ebilmesI found this book pretty provocative and interesting when I read it in the fall: Among other issues, it discussed whether there was any actual benefit to states/cities funding new arenas for sports teams. The conclusion Zirin reached was similar to what Ben Rocky said in his post above. I remain skeptical about such a finding. I'm in Pittsburgh right now and I love the city, but iby Tub(a) - Hockey

But then I am a firm believer in personal responsibility for one's actions, which probably rules out a large fraction of liability suits (IMO). That's why contributory and/or comparative negligence exists, unless you are suggesting the corporation bears zero responsibility for the accident. Hadby Tub(a) - Hockey

ugarteKeithKugartemttgrmmhowever in a civil suit you would still be liable for damages/injuries caused by your vehicle regardless of who was driving it.You probably don't realize how broad this is. If someone steals your car and crashes it, you are liable for the damage caused. Are you serious? If som, yet another reason why we need tort reform in this country. Geez. It was a distinct "up yours" motion with one arm in a fist shooting upwards towards the sky, halted only by the other arm at a perpendicular angle. And it was beautiful. Thank you, Macho Lady for all you have given us over the past few years.by Tub(a) - Hockey
