O'Byrne's Hamilton Bulldogs are visiting the Crunch and the game is being televised on Time Warner Sports right now (going into the 3rd period) for those of you in the area.
And on the subject of familiar faces, Hamilton is backstopped by Yann Danis.

In a breakthrough 2003-04 campaign playing for the Bears of Brown University, the netminder from St. Jerome, QC, posted a 15-11-4 record along with a 1.81 GAA and .942 save percentage that ranked third and second in the nation, respectively. On the strength of those numbers and a season that helped lead Brown to its best ECAC finish since 1995, Danis ended the year under a shower of accolades, earning (take a breath) First Team Jofa All-American honors, INCH.com First Team All-America honors, All-USCHO First Team honors, New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star honors, and First Team All-ECAC and First Team All-Ivy honors. In addition, he was named the 2004 ECAC Player and Goaltender of the Year, the USCHO Defensive Player of the Year, and the Ivy League Player of the Year. He also took home the Leonard Fowle Award as the MVP of New England, as voted on by the New England Hockey Writers Association.

Good thing he didn't play for Clarkson.

(For what it's worth, with all the injuries the Habs have, I'd have expected Danis to get a shot with the big club down the stretch this season.)

Yann did manage to crack the lineup with the Habs at the beginning of last season and did a decent job - 3-2, 2.69, .908. He's established himself as a legitimate AHL #1 goaltender, and since he's only 25 he'll hopefully get another chance to stick in the NHL. But Jaroslav Halak will provide stiff competition - he just picked up his first NHL shutout, has put up great numbers for Hamilton this year, and definitely looked good when I saw him play in Syracuse in December.
The Yann Danis era was a fun time to be a Brown fan. Arguably the best player ever to suit up for Bruno, and, dare I say, the best Ivy goaltender of all time not named Dryden.

You can say what you like, but I believe you'll encounter opposition (on this board in particular) who will contend that Danis wasn't even the best Ivy goaltender playing during his time at Brown.GoBruno

I, however, will offer that the team in front of Leneveu and McKee was far better than the team in front of Danis. He did a lot for his team.

While more than happy with the quality of our goaltending at the time, I sometimes wondered what Cornell would've been like with Danis in net

I refer you to the November 23, 2002 game at Lynah where Danis's 2nd period performance had him so rattled that for the rest of the game he would make a save, freeze the puck, hear the whistle and then turn around to check the net to see if the puck was behind him.
To quote The Mask that evening: For those of you who don't parle vou Francais, Danis is french for.... the anus!
