Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell football 2024 - 4 months ago
George64 No offensive coordinator, but a passing game coordinator. Apparently, as a former QB, Swanstrom is taking on play calling. Correct. Both Hatch and Reeder ran his offense at Ithaca as OC's when he left. Reeder was in the pressbox at Penn as Swanstrom called the plays, so that working relationship will continue. Cornell's offense the last decade under Archer was disjointed to say theby Ken711 - Other Sports

Mr. Niss Hard not to love this team. We have no chance if we don't rebound, and so far I think Baylor has gotten the rebound of every shot they've missed but one. I don't know what the answer is, or if there even is an answer. Need to recruit that elusive 7 foot center.by Ken711 - Other Sports

David Harding More details emerge with the filing of Site Plan Review paperwork. 90,000 square feet. 56 feet tall. $41M "hard costs". Open winter 2025-26 As for the interior space, the application touts the desire for the new building to be “a campus hub” for varsity, club and intramural practices and a limited number of lacrosse competitions. rss77 A win is a win. Getting outrebounded 50-36 a bit concerning. Is there a 7 footer in the transfer portal (LOL!) Cornell has been searching for that 7 footer since Jeff Foote graduated.by Ken711 - Other Sports

Not having a hockey team could be I suppose be justifiable because of the facility expense of not having a rink. Can someone explain why Columbia doesn't field a men's lacrosse team?by Ken711 - Other Sports

Trotsky Any particular reason why Dartmouth and Yale do not wrestle? I would normally think money, but with Yale, that's certainly not the case.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2023-24 - 5 months ago
ugarte Big news in that starting next year, the Ivy League is splitting from the EIWA as a standalone conference, with its own AQ for the conference champ. Kind of a bummer, imo, because the 17-team tournament is a lot more fun than a six-team tournament will be. Not only that, we lose our rivalry with Lehigh and create two conferences where one school is historically dramatically stronger than tby Ken711 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell football 2023 - upstate NYS football success - 5 months ago
David Harding Ken711 Cornell is playing Albany next season. Albany is semi-finalist in the FCS playoffs. That will be a huge test of the current state of the Cornell football program. FWIW, in the semifinal game yesterday the Albany Great Danes were blown out by the defending champion South Dakota State Jackrabbits 0-59. South Dakota State is a FBS school in disguise.by Ken711 - Other Sports

CAS Encouraging presser introducing our new HC. Both Ryan Lombardi & Nicki Moore spoke of additional resources being provided for football. Can’t wait for Coach Swanstrom to get started. Very encouraging.by Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: Dan Swanstrom new Cornell head football coach - 5 months ago
rss77 Was told that Cornell is going to be pouring in more resources into football but have no idea what that entails. Long overdue if they want to seriously compete for Ivy Championships with the rest of the Ivy League, great to hear.by Ken711 - Other Sports

The new indoor practice facility slated for construction this Fall is a good start. But, yes the new coach needs all the resources necessary to recruit student athletes and hire and retain a quality staff.by Ken711 - Other Sports

mike1960 rss77 Zero personality but will give him a chance. He has a solid record at Ithaca College. Penn always scored more than 20 points in their games in 2023 with Swanstrom as their OC. It looks like a good hire. His family loved the Ithaca area while he was at IC. I hope the University commitment to winning extends beyond just his hiring but providing him with the funds to hire a greatby Ken711 - Other Sports

billhoward It feels as if new Ivy coaches who aren't successful are moved on inside of a half-dozen years (with exceptions) or else they do well and stay well over a decade: Bagnoli until recently, currently five others – Priore (Penn, 9 years), Surace (Princeton, 14), Reno (Yale, 12), Murphy (Harvard, 30) – are longstanding. Also all came from the Northeastern colleges and only Surace was a studby Ken711 - Other Sports
Re: New Cornell football coach search - 6 months ago
Trotsky Unless we can find the football Schafer, I think about the only way we can get good coaching is to be a step on the ladder for an ascending coach. Take D-2 phenoms, lose them in 3 years to an FBS school, and repeat. I assume every year there are guys available from D-2 who have led their schools to a few seasons of > .750 ball. That's where to look, and don't insist on loyalty. Mby Ken711 - Other Sports
