Cornell 2024 football schedule as of December 2023. No kickoff times yet. All games currently listed as Saturday: We open on the road 1 game, 3 at home, 3 on the road, 2 at home, 1 on the road (Columbia is the continuing season-ender).
* And given our records in recent years, it could as well be the Battle of the Little Nells. Hopefully the slide has ended.
Cornell Fall 2024 Football Schedule Sep 21 TBA @Colgate <-- With a new coach Sep 28 TBA Yale <-- Homecoming so likely 2pm kickoff Oct 05 TBA Albany <-- NCAA FCS semifinalist Oct 12 TBA Harvard Oct 19 TBA @Bucknell <-- "Battle of the Nells" (Cornell can't help but say it)* Oct 26 TBA @Brown Nov 02 TBA @Princeton Nov 09 TBA Penn Nov 16 TBA Dartmouth Nov 23 TBA @ColumbiaThe Ivy League this past year (2023) described football on broadcast/cable TV as a "long-term partnership with ESPN." 2023 was six games with Princeton aired 3X, Harvard 2X including Cornell, Yale 2X. The package goes back 15 years. Every team has been in the rotation the last 5. Nothing yet on 2024.

Coach Swanstrom’s staff is now set, with 5 additions & several holdovers. Looks intriguing. Looking forward to next season!

Let me be the first to question the direction of the program under Swanstrom and call for his firing.

No offensive coordinator, but a passing game coordinator. Apparently, as a former QB, Swanstrom is taking on play calling.

Correct. Both Hatch and Reeder ran his offense at Ithaca as OC's when he left. Reeder was in the pressbox at Penn as Swanstrom called the plays, so that working relationship will continue. Cornell's offense the last decade under Archer was disjointed to say the least, and the in-game adjustments were almost non-existent. Glad he brought Penn's DB coach Eric Franklin with him, as pass defense was a problem the last few years as well.

He wasn't heavily recruited. Best I can tell, he only received one offer from Brown. He played soccer for a few years before switching to football.

Unlike basketball, football has so many players on the field at once that one or two players can't influence the outcome by themselves. Look, for example, at Barry Sanders and the Detroit Lions.Swampy

Jalyx Hunt, a DE at Houston Christian and expected to be an OLB in Philly, was a Safety for Archer. Nourzad was RT at Cornell and switched to C for Penn State but that seems more a function of where you'd expect an Ivy tackle to move when transferring to a top B1G program. He also apparently wasn't much of a recruit but stepped right into the starting lineup at Cornell and was so good in two years with us that he got yanked up to his level.Swampy

He had covid YR and didn't play 1 year so those years don't count. he has 2 years left for the NCAA
However, he is a SR at Cornell since he graduated most likely this year since he can't be a grad student.

To me, decent means being competitive in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues. A low bar, to be sure.

Pretty spot on. Dartmouth went 9-0 in 1970, won the Lambert Trophy as the best football team (any size) in the Northeast, and was ranked 14th in the final AP poll.Trotsky
It's the Ivies. None of us have had a decent football team since the 60s.
As of the 1982 season, the Ivies were relegated to Division I-AA, now known as the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). There have been a number of years when the best Ivy team would have fared well in the FCS playoffs if only the Ivy presidents hadn't picked football as the one NCAA sport where the team can't take part in the playoff system.

That's what I hope to see. A better offense, and a defense that doesn't collapse late in the games, and less dumb penalites as has been the norm for the last decade under Archer. I realize the new staff will need some time to recruit the players for their new system though.

It's fall. No exams or papers due yet. The weather may be warm. Women in tank tops. Guys with lingering summer tans. Circa 9 pm no one is yet falling-down drunk. What's not to love? And families and kids love it, too. Ditto alums who remember the feeling of being free of academic burdens for another week or two. Plus the picnic-party-rides next day in the Schoellkopf parking lot, alumni tailgates and (they put the rest of us to shame) the CBAA tailgate.RichH

Poor last paragraph.
What’s not to love? Herding people into a stadium to watch a 15 minute explosion. Meh. Not fun to me. How about having a couple bands play music on the Arts or Ag quad? Much more communal and more open for opportunities for mingling, running into old friends (or old horn-dudes like you ogling students in tank/crop tops, apparently).

Has anyone reading this ever bought commercial fireworks on the order of what is used (blown away) at the Syracuse Mets or whatever minor league team? I have often wondered why it is done there as it wouldn't seem to sell many tickets and can't be less than a thousand dollars or so. I guess those teams have money to burn. Image if that private entity put that money towards a donation pool to renovate Schoellkopf to modern standards rather than a mass of gunpowder that goes up in smoke.
There used to be a homecoming parade, too. Surely that’s cheaper and more participatory and engaging in the student community.

Well remember, it's not just the cost of the ticket. My guess is it's a "bring the family" kind of thing. And once you have kids at the ball park, you're going to spend money on concessions. Not to mention one more car paying for parking. It adds up pretty quickly.
