Well, last night March Madness ended. Now all the AD's have come back from their junket business trip to the FF and return to the business of running their universities' athletic programs.
So I give AN a week to call a press conference. If we don't hear anything by then, we should assume that Courtney is staying.
I don't know what BC can do -- or more importantly, is likely to do -- next year that could get his contract renewed. Maybe Andy will do just one little thing: transfer the "interim" label from Kerwick to Courtney.

Andy, the silence is deafening! C'mon, if you're not going to let Bill go, cowboy up and say you have faith in him. It's not fair to him, the players to leave him as a dead man walking.
I'm not sure what the operative principle is here. Ben DeLuca was fired based on vague allegations, with only the hazing incident in plain sight. But he was a very successful coach and a loyal Cornellian. Bill Courtney's past 4 years have been an unmitigated disaster, with student-athletes leaving the program and no change in sight. It's hard to imagine next year's team doing much more than going through the motions. Well, at least there has been no hazing (that we know of). Could you send a louder message that winning, retaining players, and teaching the game count for almost nothing at Cornell?

Question is will there be a team left to coach with all these defections from the program. From 2010 to this....what a ride to the bottom.

But, that is almost certainly what Bill is -- the lamest of lame ducks who is coaching out the last year of his contract.
Maybe the team will shock the world (or at least the tiny corner of the world that follows Ivy hoops) and challenge for the league title next season. That might earn Bill an extension. But without Cressler, they are likely an 5-10 win squad that will finish in the league's bottom 3 with Dartmouth and Penn.

So you're saying they'll more than double their win total? Maybe they'll schedule a purely D-III out of conference slate.

Maybe it's just basketball in a general sense that counts for almost nothing at Cornell.Swampy

This is probably the answer, not that it sends any better message to the program.

I know you are joking, but 5 wins isn't saying much. Only 3 D1 teams failed to get there. And Shonn Miller's return will help.
As far as 10 wins, a guy has to dream, doesn't he?

Not really. Some of us remember Cornell beating Kentucky at Kentucky.

A Kentucky team that was 13-13?

An exception that proves the rule, I regret to say. Having to remember back to the 1966-7 season for a highlight speaks volumes about the program.Swampy

One could also, I suppose, point to a good year or two in the Bantum-Bajusz era, but, bottom-line, there's not much to show for the last fifty years.

There are no excuses for losing 32 of the last 33 D-1 games. When Cornell basketball was good, people cared.

Courtney has to get fired no matter how many wins they get next year. He is just a recruiter, he has no idea how to coach. I am disappointed Andy did not find a way to fire him this year, next season will be a waste of everyone's time. Andy couldnt use some of that extra money the Sweet 16 team made to buy him out?

I'd say he reduces the odds of his firing by 10 points for every win over 10.phillysportsfan
