Cornell Swimming

Has anyone noticed the job Joe Lucia has done in the bath tub they call Teagle Pool. The men's team finished 5-2 in the ivy's despite injuries. Loosh took over the women's program this year and tripled their win total and is transforming the program. The stands were 75% full for the final meet of the year at Teagle. Another program rising from the ashes!

They could be the hardest working athlete's at Cornell with the longest season September to March 1st. Just trying to show a little love!

Wasn't it two or three years ago that they swept the Ivy dual meet season? I asked him at the time about whether or not a new pool will ever be in the plans. Given the budget, I doubt it:

I would love to know how the coach does it. Not only does Cornell not have a swimming tradition, but as you mentioned, the facilities could use a little work.

Coach Lucia is a dynamic personality who knows how to get the most out of his athlete's. Look at the women's team this year, after taking over both programs he has them winning 3 meets, just missing a fourth after the previous coach didn't win with the same talent for 3 years. Maybe the football team who gets a lot of glory and not many wins can take a lesson from his play book! The men's program is very strong ex Harvard and Princeton who make our pool and facilities like an inner city YMCA bath tub.

Quickly scanning through the new posts I honestly thought this was a post about Minnesota hockey.

Cornell could use a new varisty pool. Or rather a pool for everyone that helps the swim teams as well. It would suck if it's one more facility a mile off-campus. One thing nice about the old Cornell of a generation ago was the facilities, crappy as they were, were close by so the student athlete could walk a couple hundred yards from class to practice. If you went to see the lacrosse team play, the field was next to Teagle Hall.

Princeton has been fortunate to keep its facilities close to the main campus. It helps that you're America's second wealthiest university (endowment per student, not total billions).

Cornell has always been woeful for the non-student-athlete. 3 public basketball courts (1 on west and 2 on north), 3 tennis courts (all on north and gym classes always have preference), no open green space that can't be reserved by a club team or event. My biggest issue is that even if Cornell has the space, either club teams or athletics (NCAA or P.E.) use any of the space that might be left (i.e. track team in Barton)

You don't think the proximity of facilities has anything to do with two gorges and a steep incline?

And to the best of my knowledge, Princeton does have the most endowment per student. Around ten times richer than our own fair Cornell. See, for instance, here:
