Cornell on local TV in the DC area, and elsewhere with Vs. Whodathunkit?

Harvard scores on a 67 yard short pass and run on their first drive. Cornell secondary nowhere to be found.

Harvard has a long third drive, ending in a 4-yd TD run. Bad start for the Red.

Cornell's one successful drive of the 1st quarter ended in an interception. The defense did stand up on the last Harvard possession. Momentum may be swinging our way, but no points yet.

Great scoring drive with Liuzza and Barbour trading inspired runs.

Pizzotti looks good, but on both passing TDs there wasn't a Cornell defender in the same area code.

The Ivy League TV ad isn't bad looking [other than the theatrical trailer style narration] but I'm a little peeved that they use a shot of Sucks hockey, and our major presence in the commercial is hoops, but whatever. It beats the hell out of the tacky SEC ads.

Didn't their last QB transfer to become the starting QB for LSU?

Yes, sort of. The guy who transferred would have been a sophomore at Harvard. Pizzotti is a 5th-year senior.

Crissis with a 21 yd run after Harvard intercepts Ford in the final 2 minutes. 28-7 with a minute to go in the first half.

It would not be unprecedented. The Cincinnati Bungles are starting Ryan Fitzpatrick this weekend.

How come when they (and this isn't isolated to Cornell -- all teams seem to do it) run a hook & ladder, the guy that gets the ball decides he's going to try to run through 8 defenders with 30 yards to go? You've got guys behind you waiting for the ball!

Unless the coaches simply tell him not to lateral the ball for fear of a turnover that Harvard runs back the other way for a TD. If that's the case, then just call a Hail Mary.

The gocrimson.com ad that ran at halftime was superb. I wish we would do marketing like that. The Cornell "I would found a university" ad, on the other hand, looked like it was put together by a high school junior drama major.

It sure seems that Murphy and his crew have Knowles' number (not to mention a copy of his playbook). We're featuring a passive defense and scattershot offense. Siwula should be getting the bulk of the carries, as he has been far more productive than Barbour (nothwithstanding the touchdown). Ford is erratic and makes too many bad decisions.

Other than that, things are looking good bugeye

Pizzotti engineers another great drive and another score. At least it's his last year.

With no drama to keep their interest, the Vs announcers have now descended into Harvard sycophantic mode. barf

Nice TD pass by Ford to Canty with 6 minutes to go. 38-17.

And talking about Harvard's 41 athletic programs. You know, wacky programs like "hockey...badminton...women's hockey." Crazy programs that they don't have at Arizona State.

Well, several punches to the gut by a superior overall team. But you know what? coming out 1-1 vs. the two league favorites isn't awful. You get those two out of the way, and have a chance. You win out in league play, you're guaranteed at least a share of the title.

But that's a lot of work to go.

It'll take a much better effort--and game plan--to beat Brown in Providence. Our D looked like the Washington Generals against the 'Trotters--every gimmick play worked to perfection while we gawked.

Why couldn't it have been the Yale or Lehigh game that was televised?

If we got that last touchdown in the final minute, 38-24 wouldn't have sound too hopeless if all you remember is the final score, not that it was 38-10 earlier.

If Cornell hadn't made a couple dumb mistakes, it would have been a close game. Maybe even different outcome. Of course, you could say that about the outcome of the first three games also when we got lucky as well as good.

If, if, if.

Amazing how Nathan Ford can drill the ball on occasion and then three plays later tosses a horrible pick.

I would have blitzed more early on, but they didn't ask me. That would have worked really well, unless Harvard completed those passes and sidestepped the remaining defenders.

Gutsy call, the fake punt at the end of the half, and had the ball been thrown a little better it might have gone for a Cornell touchdown not first down.

The announcers seemed a bit, ah, uninformed about Fair Harvard and Fairer Cornell. One had never heard the term "Cornellian." (I thought at first he meant he hand't heard of the color Carnelian.) Then they gushed about all the players who were getting great grades at Harvard despite dyslexic or deceased parents and also tutoring in the nearby area. (Okay, that's more than I could have managed even w/o playing a sport. And how many times do you encounter a running back out of Taipei?) I liked when the announcer's PC button kicked in ... " 41 sports ... things like girls hockey at Harvard, er, women's hockey."

I think Harvard did more whispering in the ears of the Versus TV crew with the result that Versus knew how many sports Harvard plays and how many valedictorians the football team had, etcetera ... but not the same about Cornell. At least we could have given the announcers a cheat sheet of 10 Famous Jocks from Cornell and, hey, how 'bout that Janet Reno and let's not forget Gary Bettman.

The Ivy League promo was nice. The Cornell house ad was painful the first time it played and I think it played once a quarter.

We're still 3-1 and we've played the two toughest (let's hope) Ivy teams already. It still has the potential to be a very good season. It's just that I want to see an outright (not tied as 1971 1988 1990) Ivy football title once.
