Mitchel Field, where Cornell and Navy play Sat. 2/23, is said to have a permanent capacity of 6,000 and an expandable capacity of 12,000. Based on those who've seen Cornell play lacrosse on Long Island recently, is this enough to fit all the fans? We're going for the trifecta in a week: Quinnipiac hockey, Navy lacrosse, Princeton hockey. We know that when Princeton says "sellout at Baker Rink" it means not a thing because there are always 500-plus empty seats available for those buying standing room tickets. Quinnipiac I'm not so sure about talking your way in at the last minute; when we were up there last fall visiting campus before a sports event, the cop at the entrance to the parking area (who tried to tell us it was a secured area 2 hours before gametime) was wearing an ankle-length black leather coat. It was cold, I know, but that kind of coat sends the wrong message when worn by armed authority.

Woo-hoo!!! Awesome, Bill.

I'm here in Hartford, definitely going for Fri. @ QU and will have to decide about Sat. with Lax & hockey, especially considering I have a 6:30 am flight to San Diego on Sunday.

That brings up a good question then... who's selling tickets? Cornell? Navy? Hofstra?

Certainly wouldn't be Hofstra who, besides geography, has no relationship to Mitchell Field.

Ah, I thought Mitchell Field was theirs. Nevermind. Guess the way to go is call the Cornell ticket office then?

This recently showed up in my email box:
==========
Cornell Sports Fans,

The Cornell University men's lacrosse season will start with a bang on Saturday, Feb. 23 as the No. 7 Big Red travels to Uniondale, N.Y., to battle No. 9 Navy at the Mitchel Athletic Complex, home to Major League Lacrosse's Long Island Lizards. Tickets for the contest are on sale now at all Lacrosse Unlimited outlet stores and available online by going to the Lacrosse Unlimited website. Tickets are also available through the Cornell University ticket office and can be purchased in person at Bartels Hall or by calling (607) 254-BEAR. General Admission tickets are $10 apiece, while groups of 20 or more can purchase tickets for $8 each through the Cornell ticket office only. The ticket office is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The game will be a showdown of two of the most successful lacrosse teams in recent NCAA history. Over the last four seasons, the Big Red has won 46 games, the third most of any school in the country behind only Johns Hopkins (51) and Navy (49). Likewise, Cornell's five consecutive regular season Ivy League titles is the longest current stretch by any team in any conference, surpassing Navy, which has the second longest streak, as the Midshipmen have won at least a share of four straight Patriot League championships.

Cornell is coming off one of the best seasons in recent school history, as the Big Red capped an undefeated regular season (13-0) with the program's first trip to the national semifinals since the 1988 campaign. Cornell earned the fourth seed in the NCAA tournament after holding the top spot in both national polls for the final nine weeks of the season and the team finished the year with a 15-1 record, one victory shy of the school record (16 in 1976) and eighth all-time in NCAA history for wins in a season. The Big Red returns four preseason All-Americans, including Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Max Seibald, as well as John Glynn, Matt Moyer and Danny Nathan.

Navy, the reigning Patriot League champion, is the preseason favorite to repeat as league champs. The Mids went 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference and ended the season as the eighth-ranked team in the nation. Five of Navy's All-Patriot League selections from a season ago will be back in action this year, including preseason All-Americans Nick Mirabito, Jordan DiNola, Geoff Leone and Basil Daratsos.

The game on Feb. 23 will mark the first meeting between Cornell and the Mids since Navy defeated the Big Red on Schoellkopf Field, 6-5, to advance to the 2004 national semifinals.

This game will not sell out. It's not like last year's Hewlett HS game which had very low capacity. Anybody should have no problem getting tickets at the door.
