Cornell Hoops loses to Colgate

Disappointing loss at home tonight, 76-73. The Red got out to a 17-7 start, but were out of synch most of the game. We were outrebounded by a fairly large margin, and that was probably the determining factor. Colgate did a good job keeping us out of the transition game.

Crappy loss. Dartmouth, beaten by 26 in Stony Brook's first win of the season tonight after six losses, beat Colgate in Hamilton. Still not impressed one bit by Donahue as a game coach. Offense looks lost in crunch time. D is a sieve--another 50-point second half for the opponent.

Harvard, by the way, beat Michigan by 11 tonight.

[Edit: And held Michigan to one more point over the entire game than Colgate scored against Cornell in the second half alone. Oh, right...Foote's gonna fix that next semester.]

[Edit #2: Michigan traveled to Harvard for the game. Harvard scored the last 11 points of the game to win.]

No. Michigan hoops has fallen on hard times. The program floundered (by Michigan standards) under Tommy Amaker who was fired and then took a job coaching at (wait for it)...

I too think Donahue's game coaching abilities are suspect. Colgate had little trouble breaking our press at the end of the game, while we always seem to struggle in those situations.

From what I heard, Harvard hired Amaker partly for the PR but mostly because they wanted his wife who is an administrator/dean-type person. Amaker's resume as a head coach: big recruiting at Seton Hall followed by huge disappointment, then more disappointment at UM. But Dick Vitale loves him, he played and coached for you-know-who.

I actually went to a Michigan basketball game a week or so ago (I'm here for law school after graduating from Cornell last year) and that loss to Harvard was no fluke. This team is absolutely terrible. It always seems impressive when an Ivy beats a BCS school but I would guess that the top half of the Ivy League would have no trouble with Michigan this year and the bottom half would at least keep it close for most of the game.

The Michigan hockey team, on the other hand, is fantastic. Not that I would ever abandon the Big Red.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that asertion, until I looked up your reference. I'd be shocked if an Ivy could pull off a top-150 recruiting class amongst all D-1 programs.

Better get back into your chair. Several websites have Harvard listed among the top classes. For example, Hoop Scoop ranks Harvard among the top 55 nationally. This list inclides schools from the Big East, ACC, SEC, Big 10, Pac 10.
