The match will supposedly be videocast on RedCast, but, of course, we'll all be at Lynah East. Cornell's preview is here: [cornellbigred.com]

What is worrisome is that the "probable" Cornell line-up does not include Troy Nickerson (he missed the first half of last season, and it's been posted that he might miss this season with an injury). All-American Josh Arnone apparently will miss the first half of this season. Jordan Leen will face the #1-ranked wrestler at 157.

Ugh. I assume people didn't realize that when they made Cornell the #4 team in the country.

That is also frustrating to read because I got the sense that Adam Frey moved up to 133 to avoid Nickerson and is now wrestling at 141 149(!). I'm not a big fan of wrestlers starving themselves for tactical advantage, but if Nickerson is out for the year and he could wrestle at 125 ... (If Frey is wrestling at 149 I have to assume that 125 is out of the question.) I also see that Leen and Anceverage are stepping up in weight. Is this because of the Arnone injury or "too much" strength training?

The Nickerson piece is only rumor and I was hesitant to repeat it here, but it is troubling that, once again, he's not listed as being in the opening season line-up.

At least our Nickerson, if he's out, it isn't because of an STD. Or is that another TLA (three letter acronym) that needs to be expanded out so it won't be mistaken for a motor oil additive?

OT Wrestling: Nickerson Out for The Season

From the Binghamton (NY) Press & Sun Bulletin:

Troy Nickerson's quest for his first NCAA wrestling title will have to wait another year.

Nickerson, a Cornell junior, will miss the 2007-08 season due to an injured shoulder.

An MRI on Nickerson's left shoulder was taken Thursday, and the results indicated a torn labrum in the shoulder. He will likely have surgery on the shoulder after Thanksgiving.

Continued:
Also out due to a shoulder injury is All-American Josh Arnone (184/197 pounds)

Tough break for the #4-rated Big Red

Not for long, I suspect. Even if Cornell manages to beat Wisconsin, news of these injuries is likely to drop Cornell a few spots.

Arnone is supposed to return next semester, which would help in the EIWAs and NCAAs--if he stays sharp after the layoff. The Nickerson injury is crushing.

Cornell loses, 21-18. Not a bad showing, in light of the injuries. We get a rematch at the Body Bar Invitational.

Where does The Sun find these writers?

Adam Frey won his 149 lb. match Friday night against Wisconsin by getting a point for accumulating 2:17 in riding time, and The Sun writes this:

"Cornell lost the next match as well, with sophomore Adam Frey losing in the 149 pound class in another close contest, 8-7, with just 2:17 left in riding time."

Bad enough she got the result backwards, but what in hell is that last clause supposed to mean?

I think it means that even if someone on the staff knew a damn thing about wrestling, that person was at harvard or at penn or at home for thanksgiving.

Cornell wins the Body Bar invitational.

In a bit of Pravda-style journalism, the recap does not even mention #1 seed Adam Frey blew out his opening match opponent at 149 and then bowed out of the tournament with an injury. You have to go to the brackets (pdf) to find that out.

Dominating performances from Anceverage at 174 (MD, fall, fall, before winning the final by medical forfeit) and frosh Mack Lewnes at 165 (fall, fall, MD). A nice 1st place by Leen at 157 (a SV win over the #1 seed in the final, a fall and two MDs before that) and a workmanlike 1st place by Zach Hammond at Hwt. (never scored more than 3 points, but beat the #1 and #2 seeds). Also a very nice second place from Mike Grey at 133 with two falls and a revenge win over the Badger who beat him last week.

Wisconsin's #1-ranked kid at 157 apparently didn't wrestle in the Body Bar.

Yeah, I winced when I read that article. Reporter clearly thought riding time was some sort of countdown to the end of the match. You'd think the Sun could get someone more qualified to cover the Wisconsin match.
