Lots of games with tournament implications this weekend.

Navy leading Army 6-0 with time to go in the first. Army on a downward slide since playing Cornell tight. Colgate vs. Bucknell in other Patriot League semifinal.

ACC semifinals start at 6. UNC and Maryland both in the mix for #8 seed.

Syracuse-UMass game tomorrow at 3 could bounce 'Cuse out of the tournament.

Hopkins-Towson matchup could affect who gets the #4 seed for NCAAs.

12-1 Navy, final. New low for Army, regrettably.

Virginia leading Maryland 7-6 with 5 min to go in first half. Marylandhad led 3-1 and 5-3.

Bingo 9- Albany 8. Great job by Bingo but they really hurt their SUNY brethren.

Anyone else scared we might see them in the first round?

With Syracuse out, definitely. They're the closest team geographically in a potential unranked tourney berth as far as I know.

You have to presume that should the committee have to choose between sending Sienna or Albany to Ithaca, they'd ship Sienna to face the presumptive #1 seed. I don't know what the odds are at this point, but if ND draws a seed, that could be the fly out game (vs. UA) with the relative dearth of northern teams in line to make the tournament.

I'm modestly concerned, but I do have to think we're more likely to get Siena, but it doesn't seem that lax has an official seeding procedure like hockey does, so there's little way to guess. Does anyone know if Metro Atlantic has a tourney, or does the autobid just go to the regular season winner?

The MAAC has a four team tourney next weekend.

Here are the standings for the top 5. Someone else can look up the tie breaker. Any of the top 3 (as listed) are good geographically to come to Ithaca.

                                          Conference Overall
    Team PR W L T Pct. W L T Pct.
1 Siena 87.49 7 1 0 0.88 10 5 0 0.67
2 Canisius 86.41 5 3 0 0.62 6 7 0 0.46
3 Marist 86.06 5 3 0 0.62 6 9 0 0.40
4 Providence 85.88 5 3 0 0.62 5 9 0 0.36
5 Saint Joseph's 84.15 5 3 0 0.62 5 10 0 0.33

Where is Sienna? (And, more rhetorically, why haven't I heard anything about them this season/ever?)

Because they're the top of an awful conference. Out of 56 teams, they're 40th in RPI. The rest of the conference is 44, 45, 47, 48, 51, 52, 55, and 56.

Let's hope they don't turn out to be the Holy Cross of lacrosse.woot

The seeding committee, as we speak, is trying to give us a site that by coincidence is the opponent school's home turf and it's Olympic dimensions.

There was a ditty about Microsoft programming: "Windows ain't done 'til Lotus won't run." Sometimes you wonder if the same happens to the Big Red.

Separately, Swami is working out a ladder, based on the margin in Navy's 12-1 pasting of Army, showing the Middies to be if not the #1 team then better, comparatively, than Cornell.

Don't worry, Cornell will play Navy at Navy on May 20. And we can't complain (as much) because Navy came to Ithaca as a high seed in 2004.

Nobody anymore. They just lost to Providence in the catholic school invitational MAAC tournament. The all-jesuit matchup of Canisius (that's in Buffalo :-P) v. St. Joe's (Philly) to come. Winner plays (domincan) Providence (as in Rhode Island) Sunday.

I suppose we root for the Griffs to all but guarantee Cornell a date with the MAAC entry, especially with Bingo out now.
