From the Chicago Tribune
A cloud will be following me around today. This is the second baseball voice of my adulthood that has died this offseason. First Dave Niehaus of the Seattle Mariners (I lived in OR for 4 baseball seasons) and now Ron Santo.
One of the few joys of living in Indiana was getting the Cubs games on radio and afternoon baseball. There were a lot of spring and summer days when I would be listening to the Cubs games on my walkman while tending my corn plants and I very much enjoyed listening to Ron and Pat Hughes. Yes, Ron did indeed bleed Cubbie blue, but I really did enjoy his love of baseball, the Cubs and his obvious disappointment when the cubbies would do something stupid.
I guess I am old-fashion and I still enjoy listening to baseball games over the radio (internet), and it just so sad that the voices I enjoyed listening to are no longer here. Yes, even now, if I am still up at 10:30 eastern time, I will tune into a Mariner or Dodger game on a summer night. Here's hoping Vin Scully will be around for another Dodger season.
RIP Ron, you will be missed.
