Sorry to have a vaguely hockey related thread, but I just noticed that BU is now holder of the Championship Belt. If they can win their next 5 games - all at home - then Cornell will get a chance to claim it.
BU schedule until they come to Ithaca:
Sat 11/09/2002 Merrimack 7:00 ET
Fri 11/15/2002 Boston College 7:00 ET
Sat 11/16/2002 Maine 7:00 ET
Thu 11/21/2002 Mass.-Lowell 7:00 ET
Tue 11/26/2002 Harvard (nc) 7:00 ET

For that matter, if BU can get past Merrimack and BC, there will be multiple opportunities for the Belt to make its way to the ECAC.
- If BU loses it to Maine, we could take it from Maine at Estero
- If they lose it to UML, UML has a series with Clarkson/SLU, a holiday tournament semifinal matchup with Vermont, a possible holiday tournament final with Darmtouth, and then a game with Brown
- They could lose it to Harvard, obviously

Other than taking it from Harvard, how cool would it be to take the belt from BU, our age-old rivals, though? Particularly since BU is still consistently ranked in the top 15, while Harvard seems to be slipping out of the rankings already (thanks Brown ).

BU lost the championship belt to BC over the weekend. Grr. Okay, so the major ways I can see the belt getting to Cornell in the near future are:
1. BC loses it to Dartmouth on 11/26, and let's hope the belt can bounce around the ECAC until getting back to Cornell (or better yet, have Dartmouth successfully defend the belt until our game against them in February, adding more incentive to finally post a win)
2. BC loses it to Harvard on 12/11, and then the same thing happens until Cornell wins at Lynah East.
3. BC loses it to UNH on 11/19 (the very next game for both teams), then UNH loses it to Clarkson, St. Lawrence, or Yale in December/January.
4. BC loses it to Northeastern, who loses it to St. Lawrence or Clarkson later on. (I don't find this scenario very likely, given that NE is currently 2-6-2 overall.)
5. BC loses it to Maine on 12/6-7, and Maine holds it until Everblades at the end of December.
There are probably other scenarios that would work as well, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind based on BC's current 8-0-1 record and their upcoming schedule. Right now, I'm thinking the losing to UNH scenario (UNH is 6-1-2) has the best chance of succeeding.
Any thoughts?

For what it's worth, Harvard will be brining the ECAC Championship Belt to Ithaca on Friday; they lost it to Brown the opening weekend, but Brown lost it to Clarkson Friday night, and Harvard took it back from Brown last night.

Well that's good. I was afraid the team wouldn't be motivated to beat Harvard.

UNH beat BC in overtime last night: [www.uscho.com]
So they have the belt now. Hopefully, they'll lose to Clarkson, SLU(t), or Yale in December/January, or possibly lose it to Maine on Friday who can give it back to us at Everblades.

Slight correction - they could give the belt to us. In the time that the records have been kept, Cornell has never held the belt. The only ECAC school to have it was Clarkson, and that was for only one day.

Whoops...I think you're right. Why did I think we had it at one point in the past? Oh well, I want them to give it to us, then.

Maybe you should put a "URL for this page" link at the top of each page, like I do:
<p> URL for this frameset: <a target="_top" href="[<!--] VAR="SERVER_NAME" -->/~whelan/tbrw/tbrw.cgi?2003/<!--#ECHO VAR="DOCUMENT_NAME" -->">[<!--] VAR="SERVER_NAME" -->/~whelan/tbrw/tbrw.cgi?2003/<!--#ECHO VAR="DOCUMENT_NAME" --></a> </p>Server-side includes rule!

Okay, so Maine just took it from UHN this weekend. They have to go undefeated in five games (Quinnipiac, BC, BC, Iona and Hahvahd)* to still be in posession of it when they face the Red in Estero.
* I know, strictly speaking, they can also lose the first game to BC and win the second to take it back.
BTW, Cornell took the ECAC Championship Belt from Hahvahd last night and defended it against Brown tonight, taking it out of circulation until we resume league play in January.
