That is a direct quote from WCCO radio broadcast of Minn-Wisc. Minn had a 2-1 lead, and was on the power kill. They got a shothanded goal and both announcers went wild laughing and said, "take that you stinking Badgers," then laughed again. Sheeesh.

Yeah, the radio guys (in addition to being really bad about giving the score and time remaining) have no problem being homers. Of course, Wisconsin sucks at a level only matched by Harvard and Penn too.

4 consecutive losses at home later, Wisconsin amazingly still leads the PWR.

It's not amazing. Recent record is no longer a selection criterion, so what matters is how they've performed over the entire season. They still have the third-best record in the country and have played the toughest schedule. (This means they were really far ahead of everyone else before their losing streak began, so I guess that part is amazing.)

Sorry; however, in sports radio terms this was a "bit". Does Wisconsin suck? Not really. Do I like Wisconsin's chances in the tournament? Yeah, in fact, they could lose every game from here-on-out and still be the most dangerous team in the tourney (Could you imagine if they had Phil Kessel?). Do I like Wisconsin? Not really. It's a product of growing up in Minnesota, and liking Minnesota sports teams (yes, I still like Minnesota ). Of course, the fact that Wisconsin athletics teams are all pretty solid adds to the equation. As for the ivies mentioned, Penn has a special place in the hearts of all band members for their director, and Harvard, well, lots of people dislike Harvard (least of which is me). I apologize if my value has diminished, but ask you not to hate the player, but to hate the game .

When their clear #1 goalie/Hobey candidate Brian Elliot comes back in mid to late February (last I heard), they should bounce back. They absolutely owned the WCHA until he got hurt which was very impressive (13-1-2 through mid January in WCHA, also 4-0 Michigin, Michigan State, West Michigan, Northern Michigan).

The Gopher radio broadcast guys are notorious homers, true. One thing you might want to understand about the context of that radio call in this game is that Phil Kessel was being mercilessly booed every single time he touched the puck that weekend. Madison area papers all ran columns about the traitorous Kessel (how dare he attend a school other than his hometown UW!). Kessel happens to be the first Madison area guy to EVER play for the Gophers.. combine that with the fact that he was most hyped recruit in several years, and he chooses to play for the arch-rival Gophers, and you've got a recipe for fan bitterness and hate that will never go away. So anyways Kessel breaks through with a goal last night to put the Gophers up 3-1 ... pretty much clinching the win, and wiping away Wisconsin's once comfortable lead in the WCHA. After he scores, he cups his hand to his ear, taunting the now silent UW crowd. That's when "Take that you stinking Badgers" happens.

Lucky for the Gophers that they had dropped the Woog-instituted policy of only letting in-state kids play on their hockey team only a few years ago.Nostradamus
