The athletics department schedule has no mention of the Michigan State games being webcast. It lists the gametracker, but that's a sorry second to being able to see a streaming video, which itself is a sorry second to regular TV, to HDTV, or to being there in person. But seeing a webcast is at least tenable. Listening on radio is barely palatable. So is there a webcast?

Didn't "All-Access" claim to include "all home hockey games"?

I just wish there was affirmation on the Cornell schedule. If they have room to say "gametracker" which is every game, I wish they'd have room to say "Webcast" also. I NEED for my emotional well-being (it's been months and months with no Big Red hockey) to see a game. Otherwise, I have to figure out a way to drive to Ithaca Friday and then get back in time for the Princeton football tailgate Saturday at 1030, the hurricane of the week notwithstanding.

That's, like, thirteen hours of driving time leeway. :-}

By going to the "All Access" page for Cornell, clicking on the link for the Cornell All-Access lineup and using the drop-down menu to select hockey, I get the following page:
[allaccess.cstv.com];

which shows two small video camera icons next to the MSU games, which I'll take to mean that streaming video will/should be available. And my credit card is staying right in my wallet until I'm satisfied that this service will be reliable.

BTW, I'm so glad that Cornell Athletics has contracted their website out to a company that supplies us with much needed and much desired pop-up advertising. How freaking thoughtful and appropriate.

The company was also thoughtful enough to tell several of us who called in to ask why there was no Brown football videocast that "Cornell canceled the feed." My subsequent email to Andy Noel was answered by saying there were technical issues caused apparently by the rain which resulted in Schoellkopf losing all internet connections for about two hours.

Other than too frequent major delays like this one, the quality of the videocasts has been reasonably good--although picture quality could best be described as VVLDTV.

Put a 19" TV on the one side of a screen door, about 3 feet away. Stand on the other side.

Have someone hold a garden hose on top of the screen door and let the water trickle down the screen door until every opening in the mesh is nicely coated. Try to watch through the now-wet mesh. (Not to be confused with the Lynah Rink safety mesh one of the two cameras is shooting through half the time.)

Every 3, 4 minutes, have a helper pull out the power plug for 30 seconds. If you have a freeze frame feature on your TV, every couple minutes, randomly hit the freeze button and hold it for 3, 4, 5, 10 seconds.

At its best, it's like a third generation VHS videotape. It sucks and it's great at the same time. You will of course want to be online at eLynah for the sense of community.

Look, you paid $30,000-$40,000 times four to attend Cornell (or its equal in inflation adjusted dollars). What's six, seven bucks more?

Also, make sure the audio never cuts off, even during breaks, so you can hear the announcer saying he has to go to the bathroom or scratch himself.

Cornell and CSTV are employing the same scummy business practices that tick off buyers in the for-profit world and keep Eliot Spitzer's plate full.

Note way down in the boilerplate below they hold themselves not responsible for failure to deliver the Webcast as in the case of an unexpected event like, say, it raining in Ithaca the weekend of the Brown game.

Copying and pasting CSTV's legal boilerplate probably violates their legal boilerplate. I wonder if letting other people see it consitutes product disparagement.

Cornell's alliance with CSTV for these webcasts, for gametracker, and also for the look and feel of the website, is not a match made in heaven. I think Cornell and a lot of other athletic departments felt what CSTV offered was better than what they had on their own ... but maybe when the contracts come due for renewal, a lot of athletic departments will have second thoughts.

You know, I have the same problem. Signed up on Sunday afternoon, still haven't heard anything. I didn't want some delayed billing issue to prevent me from getting the games this weekend. Hopefully there is still time.

(As an aside, I have a Citibank card and it allows you to generate "virtual account numbers" that are essentially good for just one use -- the expiration date is always just one month away. In the past this has been really good for those "subscription" services that just try to bill you again in a years time without reminding you first.)
