Alumni in the pros - October 2005

Since no one else has started this thread, I will, even without anything to offer except a link to the October news posted under September: [elf.elynah.com]

Last night in the season opener against Omaha, Bâby (of the Chicago Wolves) picked up penalties for interference and hooking. Maybe someone has mentioned it before, but all the Chicago games are being televised by Comcast this year, at least regionally, and you can listen to the games on the Web: [www.chicagowolves.com]

Charlie Cook had an assist on the game-winning goal this evening as the Philadelphia Phantoms defeated Binghamton 4-3 in overtime.


And Doug Murray had an assist on Cleveland's only goal at the Baron's dropped their game with Rochester this evening 4-1.

Mike Iggulden with an assist in Cleveland's 4-1 loss saturday night.

Lenny will start again on Tuesday...and potentially could be the Phoenix #1 goalie for a short bit as Cujo got banged up in the game on Saturday (Passmore got called up from San Antonio as well).

Phoenix at Dallas to be televised on OLN at 8:30EDT tonight.

After 4 games, Nieuwendyk is 2nd in points for the Panthers (1 goal, 2 assists). The Panthers play the Bruins (in Florida) on Thursday night (Oct 13).

So I normally only read on here, but I had to post this time. I saw the Oct. 8th game between Cleveland and Rochester that Iggulden got the assist in. I spent most of my time cheering for Iggulden and commenting how well he was playing to my parents & fiance; I think people were a little confused how a rookie had such loud fans in the home opener. He was named the third star of the evening, behind two Rochester players, so I was happy to see that I wasn't completely biased in my assesment. Watching him play with the Barons definitely gave me a new appreciation for his skill

Also, I couldn't resist bellowing a quick "Let's Go Red" as Murray exited the penalty box i was sitting behind

I was at the Rangers' completely absurd 4-0 whupping of the Panthers tonight - they outshot Florida 49-23, and Lundqvist put on an absolute clinic in the net. (Luongo and McLennan actually played very well themselves, but with 49 shots and a couple of 5-on-3s, you're going to let a few of them in.) I don't think I ever thought I'd see the Rangers so thoroughly dominate another team.

What's got me a little concerned is Joe Nieuwendyk - he was sent to the box for hooking at 19:32 of the first period, and after the break, he didn't come back out of the locker room; someone else finished his penalty for him. I didn't see him the rest of the night. I can't find any reference to him in the recaps - does anybody have any idea what happened? Did it get mentioned on OLN?

From the Panthers' web site report on the game: " Florida center Joe Nieuwendyk left early in the second period because of back spasms. He is not expected to play Tuesday night in New Jersey when the Panthers finish their two-game trip."

That's friggin' awesome!

Coyotes not doing very well yet, but Lenny taking full advantage of his chances in net. SI gives him some pretty good kudos in this week's NHL power rankings.

Is there a logjam at goalie? Coach Wayne Gretzky has been impressed with the play of David LeNeveu, who was called up when regulars Brian Boucher and Curtis Joseph went down with injuries, so much so that LeNeveu may have earned himself a regular spot on the roster. Seeing how they've started the season, no wonder Brett Hull retired.

Vesce got another assist last night. Does anybody know what happened to Charlie Cook, he's gone from the Philadelphia roster. Check out the AHL scoreboard of the Barons game, the opponent had a player score five goals and another player had 6 assists, wow!

Did Doug Murray suffer a new eye injury this month? He has played in all five of the Barons' games this season.

Cook was listed on the roster when I checked the webpage just now (9:18 Sat. PM).

He is listed on the roster but hasn't played in several weeks! Vesce picked up two more assists last night and Iggulden had an assist. Hynes was not in the line-up for Portland.

in the coyotes-mighty ducks game today, now in progress, it looks like lenny replaced joseph after joseph gave up 3 goals on 11 shots. coyotes still losing 3-2 in the beginning of the third...

You may be right there. I've been looking for his name in the results, but it isn't there. Precious little info on the Phantoms webpage, tho.

I checked Trenton's roster and he's not listed there.

Injury maybe?

Cujo was pulled after the 1st, Lenny played the 2nd and 3rd periods. He played pretty well. Gave up 2 goals on 17 shots, but neither of them was really his fault. First goal was a shortie by Anaheim. Faceoff was in the Phoenix end. Lenny stopped a quick shot after the faceoff, Anaheim picked up the rebound and shot again, he stopped the shot initially, but it trickled ino the crease behind him, and the anaheim player skated around poked it in. None of the phoenix defenders got a body on anybody...it was ugly.

Second goal was with about :30 left in the game. Leneveu was skating to the bench for the extra man, there was a turnover at center ice, puck was shot before he got back into position and slid by him for the goal.

I was at the game yesterday and agree he played fairly well. The last goal was really bad luck for him, although the Ducks did hit two posts in the 2nd period, so I guess 2 GA in 2 periods was about right for his performance. He made some good saves in the 3rd including a sliding pad stacking save to rob Selanne. He certainly didn't deserve the loss, as Phoenix outscored Anaheim 3-2 while he was in net.

Following Monday’s practice, Gretzky announced that rookie goaltender David LeNeveu would get the start in goal on Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues.

“David has been real good this season and we wanted to get him another game on this home stand,” said Gretzky.

Lenny picks up his first NHL win, 5-4 over the blues in OT

Coyotes win 5-4 in OT and Lenny get his first NHL win... glad it came in a game of hockey and not in a skills competition (shootout).

True enough, I didn't see all of the game, but that was not a particularly good performance from Lenny. Still, I'm happy he got his first NHL win.
