Apology for Fake Announcements

Apology for Fake Announcements

To the loyal fans of Cornell Hockey:

My name is Richard Galati and I am the President and General Manager of WVBR-FM. I wanted to take this time to publicly apologize to all of you for the series of false and inappropriate announcements made during the evening of September 24.

The DJ in question was not authorized to make any comments about the ticket line nor was he authorized to make the announcement about the line if distribution was to begin on Saturday night. His on-air privileges have been suspended indefinitely and Ithaska has been placed on indefinite hiatus.

Let me stress to you that this incident does not in anyway alter the fact that an announcement will be made sometime between now and Thursday during the hours of 9-11:30 PM. WVBR will do everything in its power to ensure that it is made clear to you, our listeners, that the announcement is indeed official and genuine. An apology and a clarification on the line announcement will be made tomorrow night on Sports Roundup, which is broadcast every Sunday from 7-8 PM.

On behalf of the loyal staff members at WVBR who have worked so hard to put this event together, let me again apologize for any anxiety and anger that this incident might have caused. I hope that this process proceeds smoothly from this point and I thank you for your continued listenership.

Sincerely,

Richard Galati
President and General Manager
WVBR-FM
Cornell Radio Guild, Inc.

Can somebody who was listening last night tell us in more detail what exactly was said by the DJ? "Teasing" is all I've heard thus far; can we get more explicit details?

That's ok. When in doubt, we don't blame VBR anyway....we blame Athletics. :-D

He was talking about giving away tickets off and during the second half of his show (from like 10:30-11:30). He kept on saying things like stay tuned, etc. "PSA from Cornell Hockey...why don't we wait on that" Finally, around 11:25 he did a pretty good fake announcement something like... "There is an announcement from Cornell Athletics. This years Cornell Hockey line will begin at... (big silence)...just kidding tickets won't be given away tonight, I don't know when or where they will be given away, stay tuned." It was pretty nerve racking and kept me on my toes. But I guess he at least kept the night interesting. I just wish he played some decent music.

Somewhere, Gene Nighman is smoking a cigar and laughing.

Based on this line procedure, he's smoking something. A cigar, however, was not the first thing that came to mind.
