Why are there no defense cheers?

Why are there no defense cheers?

A few years ago with the frozen four team a few defensive cheers started catching on but have since disappeared. We are known as a defense first team but yet we have no cheers to support our defensive stars. Moulson and McKee get a lot of attention and rightfully so but what about Iggulden and Carefoot who go against the opposing teams top lines night in and night out. I think we should have more cheers to support our defense especially on the penalty kill. We need to let other schools no that we love defense at Lynah! What does everyone else think?

Sounds great. Suggest a few that you think will sound good and catch on.

Actually, it's more of a version of the Australia cheer, "Aussie Aussie Aussie!! Oi! Oi! Oi!"

I recall hearing cheer for Knoepfli and/or Varteressian in section A during their freshman year. It was very similar to the cheer for Svoboda. Does anyone know how it goes? It didn't catch on because few heard it clearly.

S-V-O-B-O-D-A, Varteressian! Go-go, Varteressian!
?

(Dan Svoboda wore #9 before Varteressian.)

It was in the original Svoboda cheer, right?

One of my favorite things I've seen at another school is the way BU students sing/clap "Ole" the whole time when the Terriers are on power play and then some other song when on penalty kill. It'd be great if something could be thought up along those lines (without copying BU) as I'm sure it would give a bit more spark to our players, than the random "Let's Go Red" or "XXXX SUCKS"

lots of war on terror-esque possibilities here:

moulson is a WMD
threat level red
downs and cook: Homeland Defense/secretary of defense
athletics department of defense

kinda sad, kinda amusing

For the 2003 ECAC championship game, my mom, who is a high school art teacher, had her students make one of those warning signs like you buy in the hardware store. It said, "Beware of the Doug." Mom is great.

I remember one lax game against Hobart, where their fans would all sing "goooooal time. Gooooal time" when they had the ball in the attacking zone. We could always do that when we go on the PP at Lynah.

One other thought is to go "Two minutes wasted...clap, clap...clap, clap, clap" after we kill off an opponenets PP.

How about replacing "Abbotts" with "Hynes" in the Song #7 cheer? I know it's not related to D, but just a suggestion.

How about going back to "Ole!" since we don't have anyone with a name that fits there? rolleyes

I like 'em. Perhaps better sign material than cheers.

As I recall, at the 2003 ECACs, someone had a sign that said something along the lines of "Doug Murray and Stephen Bâby - Weapons of Mass Destruction". I think giving the title to Moulson now would be appropriate. :-D

During the "Power Kill" season of '96, we would sarcastically yell:

"Oh no, not another [insert team] power play! [pause] AAAAAAAHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" I think a whole crowd laughing can be very offputting.

I actually like "Two minutes wasted! Clap, etc." Lots of "s"s and "t"s = good for cheering.

I think moulson would be a better fit as a strategic weapon than one of mass destruction. Maybe a smart weapon that manages to find his way around the defenders and goalies pads to hit the target. GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!!! :-D

Hynes with his hit defending Moulson the other night i think would fit more as a WMD.

Chear idea for when a team is consistently icing the puck (ala Princeton):

To the tune of Mary had a little lamb :

I-cing is the best d-fense, best d-fense, best d-fense,
I-cing is the best d-fense YOU SUCK!

Or replace YOU SUCK with the triumpth the insult dog "For Me to POOP ON!"

Reusing a song probably isn't a good idea. It's an especially bad idea with Mary - we already have two cheers that go with it ("He let's the pucks go by" and "Fight! Maim! Kill!" and folks have trouble distinguishing.

I agree, it's less than optimal to reuse mary. How about a little help to put it to "row, row, row your boat"

Ice, ice, ice the puck,
watch how far it goes ...

help
