SLU will be a very different team than Cornell is used to seeing. They have a big time offense that will hit you in many ways. Cornell got beat a little more than usual in the defensive neutral zone transition last night and that area in particular is where SLU's bread and butter is. Marsh is notorious for mixing and matching his lines, so the matchups for Cornell's lines and pairings are very important. Their overall defensive scheme, however, is brutal. I'm hoping Gleed returns tonight, but if he doesn't, Glover is going to have to play a lot more than he did last night, because the defensemen will be seeing a lot more work tonight than usual. I would really like to see Cornell play a full 60 minutes tonight and not be outscored in the third period. Cornell could potentially blow these guys out if they stick to their system, or this could end up being more of an offensive affair than we have grown accustomed to (like 4-3 or 5-4).

Saints fans on USCHO were nearly suicidal last night at how bad their squad looked against Colgate. Their offense was completely neutralized, and as noted, if their O isn't on, they're dead meat. I'd expect them to come out with huge jump early, and if the CU defense can hold them off, get more and more frustrated as the game goes on.

Cornell doesn't play many proficient offensive teams during the RS, so this is a good test.

I'd like to see Salmela get a shot. He was very solid in the 3 games I saw him play last year - Florida and at Harvard. He seemed less prone to mistakes than the other freshman D and didn't take bad penalties either. I suspect he may be a little rusty if he plays.

I guess it'll depend on whether Gleed is back or not. Otherwise, not the team you want to be two defenseman down against.

If Gleed and Pokulok are out, then it is:

Downs
Cook
O'Byrne
Krantz
Glover
Salmela

That's it; no other D on the squad. I suppose they could move McLeod or McKeown back to the blueline if either has any experience there, but I'd be happy with Glover and Salmela in the short term.

I don't know about the shots, but the SLU announcers are the joke of the league. They've been the worst, by far, for at least three seasons now. Ridiculous homers, ignorant, and needlessly incendiary. Funny, because the Clarkson team just across the way is excellent, so it aint for audience appeal.
