My wife and I will be staying in Ithaca to see the Union/RPI series for our annual Valentines Day CU hockey weekend. I was checking hotels and noticed the La Tourelle Country Inn. Any thoughts? The website seems nice, but that could be misleading when it comes to hotels.

We stayed there for a weekend 10 or more years ago. It was quite nice, but for one night the only room available was their cirular "turret" room, which "featured" a sunken circular bed and was decorated in rather garish reds. [Actually, it might be kind of appropriate for Valentine's Day. But the mattress was sitting right on cement!] Rooms in the main building are a cut above the run-of-the-mill motel room.
We did not eat in the on-site restaurant--named something like the red pig in French-- but we have heard good comments (if it's still there).
Go for it.

The restaurant is now John Thomas' Steakhouse. A bit pricey, but excellent food.
BTW, it used to be Auberge du Cochon Rouge (probably should check my French dictionary for the correct spelling): Inn of the Red Pig. You'd only go there when your parents were in town and treating.

Both LaTourelle and John Thomas Steak House are VERY nice. The restaurant is pricey (for Ithaca, but not for steak houses) and serves great dry aged beef. The Inn is just that...nice rooms most with nice views.

Thanks. I remember Auberge...driving past it at least. Thanks for the tips.
The Turret Room, hmmm.

I will pass on our good friend's recommendation of the William Henry Miller Inn. [www.millerinn.com] They stayed at the Inn when they came to Ithaca for our wedding ~5 years ago. The rooms were nice, the service was excellent and the location is great. (Base of Buffalo St - walking distance from the Commons and many fine restaurants.) Our friends routinely stay at B&B's and this is one of their favorites. Never having the need for a hotel in Ithaca (thanks Age!) I haven't stayed there personally - but it's gorgeous from the outside.
