Though the game is still a little over a month away, I received something in the mail today from the Harvard ticket office regarding free parking for Harvard hockey games, and wanted to share it with all of you (before I lose the paper).

According to Harvard,
"The athletic department has partnered with Tavern on the Charles Bar and Grill located at 1234 Soldiers Field Road (accessible from both Western Avenue and Soldiers Field Road). The Tavern is offering free parking for men's hockey games for fans. A complimentary shuttle will bring fans directly from the Tavern to the Bright Hocket Center. This shuttle will operate 6:30-7:30 pm and then make return loops from 9:00-10:00 pm on game-days."

I know that many of you like to all meet up (for instance, at John Harvard's) prior to the game, and to get to the game earlier than 6:30, but this is a minor solution to those who are unable to find parking (it is difficult here). That being said, it's pretty sad that the Athletic Department is encouraging fans to arrive 30 minutes late to the game, but whatever.

LOL. Wouldn't that actually be early for many of them?

BTW, we mustn't discount the conspiracy theory aspect of this notice they sent you. Maybe they know that you're actually one of us and are hoping you'll spread the word to the Faithful. Then, when we all head over there for the "free parking", we find:

A - there are no shuttles

or

B - there are shuttles, but they get "lost" on their way to the rink

Maybe they're working on a new way to even the odds in the crowd. Hmmmm....

That'd be a pretty nice prank. But, of course, as we all know, Harvard doesn't do pranks. :-P

Well, maybe WE should run with the idea then, kinda like them Yalies. We'll cut down on the number of Harvard fans by busing them elsewhere. No wait, that wouldn't work. The buses would be idle, since they don't show up for their own games anyway.

Know what they really need at Harvard? They need a modern day version of the old English press gangs that used to ply the taverns and drag unsuspecting denizens into the British Navy. They could roam Harvard Square and local haunts and drag people kicking and screaming to the hockey games. At least then they'd have some screaming.

The Tavern on the Charles Bar and Grill at 1234 Soldiers Field Road is in the Days Inn, which is also a good place to stay. Resonable rates and they have never charged for parking.
