hockeydb.com doesn't indicate any professional experience post-Cornell.

Yes, pre-med. I seem to recall that he went to med-school right after he graduated.

The fellow from from Meadsville made the comment that Ryan's father was encouraging him to attend med school. So that fits with your comments.
Thanks gang.

I know this is a very old thread but here is what he's up to.
NEW PHYSICIANS JOINING SOS
We are happy to announce that we will have two new surgeons joining SOS this summer. Both surgeons will be joining us after completing their respective fellowships and SOS was lucky enough that they chose our group to begin what we believe will be long successful careers. The new surgeons are as follows:
Dr. Ryan Smart is a fellowship trained in Sports Medicine; he is currently completing this fellowship at the Baptist Hospital in Boston. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania, attended Cornell University and then completed his medical school at University of Michigan and residency training at Yale University in Connecticut. Dr. Smart will be a North Region physician, practicing out of the North Medical and Northeast Medical offices. He will be performing his surgical cases at Specialists One Day Surgery Center and St. Joseph's Hospital.
His practice focus will be in treating adult and pediatric sports injuries and adult and pediatric fracture care. His training concentrated on the treatment and surgical repair of injuries of the shoulder, hip and knee. Treatment options include arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, total shoulder replacement, total knee replacement and arthroscopic management of hip disorders including labral tears and hip impingement.
His philosophy in providing care is to establish a warm, friendly rapport with each of his patients. He believes that this encourages open and direct communication. Dr. Smart believes that listening to the needs of the patients and including them in the diagnosis and treatment decisions is a key component in the process of restoring the patient's health.
Dr. Smart is married and he and his wife Mona have three children, including 5 month old twin girls. They will be joining us here in Syracuse in early August. Dr. Smart played four years of varsity hockey while at Cornell and remains an active alumnus at the school. He still enjoys playing hockey along with golfing and spending time with his wife and children.
Also he was drafted by the New Jersey Devils but he was far in the draft, don't know if he went and played any with them. Also, its Meadville.

Thanks, I was told that a hockey alumnus was coming, but no one could tell me who. And it's nice to know he's an active alumnus. What do you have to do to continue to be one?swiggyswag
