Used jersey

I picked up Mark McCrae's (29) jersey today from the Teagle issue desk. Putting down a hundy for an article of clothing sure hurts, but I'm convincing myself it was worth it.

Having spent so much money, it's in my interest to learn about/take care of this prized possession. So I was hoping a few fellow used-jersey owners could answer some [naive] questions of mine:

-Why are the nametags removed? Recycling purposes? Does one generally have to know the player personally to get their tagged jersey?

-Is it a bad omen to wash these things? I like the idea of keeping black puck/tape marks for posterity, but is there a way to wash them out without causing damage?

-Is a hundy too much? ;)

Thanks!

For that type of item, not at all. Go to NHL.com (or your favorite jersey retailer) and price NHL replicas and NHL Authentics. Replicas generally run you $80-90, and authentics are about twice what you paid. You have a game worn jersey which (for NHL players) go for many times that in collecting circles.

Martin,
I believe the name plates are reused from year to year and are therefore taken off the jerseys after the season is over. Not sure if it's a "bad omen" or not but they are real jerseys and they look like that for a reason, I'd leave it the way it is. Lastly, like Rich said. . .$100 is defiantly not too much, that thing will last you forever!;-)
See y'all in Lake Placid:-D

I got one too, a hundred is definitely a good deal. I mean, the ones in the campus store are $50, and they cheap knock-offs that werent even worn; most pro jerseys are over $100. I also brought a marker last Saturday and got the whole team (minus Bell, Hughes, Iggulden, Palahicky) to sign it, so now the $100 is money extremely well spent.

Martin, we also went down to check out the shirts....(musta been a busy day). ...my question (anybody?) is when do the current crop of shirts hit the sale bin? After the last game played this year? Before summer vac? Next semester? Would love to snag a "6"......Definitely worth the $!

NHL jerseys can actually cost between $400 and $3500 depending on the player.

I think the Lopatka jersey I have was gotten for me on EBay for about $120. A hundred for a current, drafted player is definitely reasonable, and perhaps even an excellent deal.

Does some portion of the money go to the hockey program, or does it all get dumped back into the communal athletic department sink?

Yes indeed, they do recycle the nameplates now (which they didn't do a few years ago). If one opens the desk drawer in the "hockey room", you'll see them all there.

I know people who treat their jerseys with a lot of respect, and get every person in the world to sign it, and don't wash it ever. I always manage to spill some sort of beer on it each weekend, and I don't think I've brought any bad luck yet.. just depends on how much you put into it.
:-))

I believe the jerseys in Teagle are from either 1998-1999 or 1999-2000 season. I picked up a #29 home jersey last fall. It's a white Bauer jersey with a red ECAC tag. The ECAC tag on last year's home jersey is white. Without a name plate, I am guessing the jersey was worn by either Mark McCrae or David Francis.

BTW, when did ECAC change their logo?

BTW, when did ECAC change their logo?

The last year of the old torch logo I believe was the freshman year of the current seniors. Which would've made it the 1998-1999 season.

Then an ECAC hockey administrator's 2-year-old son drew an oval with a crayon, and the new logo was born. (Note to any college newspaper employees: I'm kidding)

My undestanding, though I could be misguided, is that the jerseys are available every other fall. So because they were available this past fall, they will again be available in fall of 2003.

Mine also has the red tag (white ECAC letters, black oval). So it's possible that it wasn't Mark McCrae's?

Martin, I think the 29 jersey you have was McRae's (one c! :) )..... Depends when the ECAC changed the patch--the guy at the Teagle office said it was changed "the year before last"--which I take to mean the 1999-2000 season, which would make McRae a freshman. Another poster to this thread remembers the change in 98-99. I wasn't here then, so have no personal memory....whatever, or whosever, they're still great shirts!!

If it is the oval logo, it is most certainly McRae's. As I said before, the last year of the "torch" ECAC logo was '98-'99. The first year with the "oval" ECAC logo was '99-'00 (The McRaes' freshman year). Therefore Mark has been the only #29 to wear the new ECAC logo. Since you mentioned an oval, it's the new logo, and therefore has to be Mark's. Clear enough?
