Will anyone be watching the games this weekend at a bar in NYC or in NJ? If not, I'm considering getting DirecTV before then.
I'm just not sure bars will be willing to show the hockey game during Hoops March Madness.

Couldn't hurt to try calling them, Prong. I'll repeat for your benefit: Blondies on W. 79th has been accomodating in the past when asked in advance.

Well, RichS, I'm in NJ (work in the NYC though, so Friday would be looking for a place in the city), but your " " emoticon gives me pause to ask.

Why on Earth would anybody within 200 miles of Lake Placid not be *at* the games?
(Yes, I'm just yanking your chain. Well. Mostly.)

Greg, for me (and Big Red Apple can probably back me up on this) it boils down to this: Don't let your children become lawyers at large Manhattan firms (I wish someone had told my parents this )

Last year I watched a CU game on NESN at Ship of Fools at 83rd and 2nd ave. Nice people who will for sure turn one of the tv's (they have 26 of them) on for you and they have some good food too.

Sure...
Anything for a ECAC fan...even a cornellian! Geeze, don't let Al read this!
The Sportz Bar on Route 10 West in the Ramada Inn (973-386-5622), is where I have hosted our annual satellite broadcast the past several years.
They have a lot of wall mounted TVs and one huge wall screen which I'd bet would be tuned to bouncy ball.
Ask to speak with Mike, the manager...a great guy...mention "college hockey playoffs" and he'll say "sure" so fast, it'll make your head spin! I've seen playoff games there for several years, usually on Saturdays. It might be a tad noisy on Friday since he has a band at night I think but hey...you work in the city, right?
Its not a long trip even from Manhattan...maybe 30-40 minutes...

For starters, LP is more than 200 miles from the NYC area.
And surprisingly, there are other things in life besides college hockey taht are of import!
Okay, so I can't name more than a few...but my wife sure can!

Rich- Thanks for the info. Actually, I work in East Hanover and usually hang out at The Sportz Bar after our company softball games.
I just figured I could get a better draw in NYC. But if I can't. I'll definitely head over to the Ramada.

Parag,
Not sure of my plans for Friday or Saturday as I am still hoping to be able to get to LP but it does not look likely...so maybe I'll take a run down there one or both nites.
I could watch on my friend's DISH down the block here, but I prefer the bar atmosphere...esp for the playoffs. And if it's a Sat eve Clarkson-cornell game, that would be great!
All we'd need would be for Al D to join us! )

RichS, thank you. I actually live within 10 miles of that Ramada Inn (I believe), so that could work out very well for me on Saturday (although if Cornell gets bumped in the semis, I may not have the heart to watch Saturday's game).
I still need to figure out Friday; if a concensus forms here I'd probably try to join in. Are there any options closer to the midtown area?

Jason,
I'm not that familiar with the mid town bar scene anymore but...
I mentioned the Park Ave Country Club previously...sounds like some folks had some luck there.
Check to see if "The Sporting Club" is still in business down on Hudson Street in Tribeca. I was there quite a bit in the mid 80s when it first opened and it was a great place! They had a large number of sets at the time. No idea if it's still around, but that might be a good bet.
I think I heard "Boomers" on the upper west side was a good sports bar but have never been there.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Gee, I'm about 1000 miles from Lake Placid right now, and I'll be there. But then you know what I'm like...

Yup, sure do John...and God Bless You! HAve a safe trip!!
Somehow, I think if I take off for LP either on Friday or Saturday...with all that I have to do this weekend...AND a 3 pm date at the GArden for the Rangers-Detroit game Sunday...I would find my house locks changed when I return!
Of course, I do have a good friend who's a locksmith!

Hey, I'm a couple hundred miles away and will be there. Bringing my family too. My 8 yo knows most of the players. That will probably change by 5 years from now, but I'll take it as long as I can.
As for large NY law firms, you could always leave the big town and come to small town USA. Sometimes the living really is easier.

Word of warning, kids. I am posting from work. I think that should explain why I am not going to be in Lake Placid.

I called up 10 West Bistro Sportz Bar & Grille on Route 10 in East Hanover and they will show the games Friday & Saturday. I will be there on Friday around 5 or 5:30 and try to reserve a spot.
If anyone is coming, let me know and I'll try and reserve seats
