Hi folks,

Does anyone have an idea as to where Vesce will be playing hockey (if at all) next season? I grew up a huge fan of Mark Pavelich. He was a tiny kid that starred at UMD and played for the Miracle on Ice team and them played center for the Rangers for several years. Vesce really reminds me of him and I'd love to see him get a shot in the NHL.

Cheers,
Mike

I find it astounding that Mike Milbury hasn't inked Ryan Vesce to a two-way contract with the Islanders. Given Mad Mike's talk about looking for character players with leadership skills at the 2004 draft and his decision to forego drafting the most talented players available in the first round (e.g., Robbie Schremp and Kyle Chipchura), one would think that he would sign Ryan Vesce. I firmly believe that Ryan Vesce has what it takes to make it in the NHL.

While he has an NHL-caliber heart, I still feel size matters in the pros. You can throw St Louis out there as an example of the small guy making good but he's still the exception, not the rule. And much as I love Vesce, he's not St. Louis.

Also, don't forget he was injured for several weeks this spring. That could be enough to scare away many scouts.

I too can't believe an NHL team hasn't given Ryan a chance yet. Who wouldn't jump at the chance to land a 5' nothing forward who missed his teams two deciding games as a senior captain with an upper body injury? Before all you hypocrite losers start to cry let me say that Vesce is a nice college player, but just because somebody puts up 7 points against Princeton in November, does not make him a lock for the NHL. Now here comes avash '05 getting all annoyed............

The Flyers just signed hometown product Tony Voce, the 5'8", 185 lb. former BC first-line center. I don't see Voce becoming an NHL star, but I think he could be a solid third-line center in the NHL. I think this is a smart, low-risk signing by the Flyers.

Will Ryan Vesce be the next undersized, undrafted college center to sign an NHL contract?
