Can anyone help to identify the old "cowbell guy" in this photo. My impression is, it is from the '80s some time. But perhaps not. Thank you for any help.

The link to your photo seems to be broken.

Thanks. The link is actually fine. It's the site it's on that's the problem - it's down at the moment. I'm going to put the photo somewhere else. [update: should be OK now]

I'm not exactly sure what his name is, but I beleive he went by "height" or "weight." Rumor has it, he was not a student, but would try to get seats that were subsidized by the Student Assembly.
By the way, Adam, using the forum to get a source is journalistic excellence that would even make Woodward and Berstein proud.

Don't know the Cowbell Guy, but the guy in front of him with the mustache is Dale Flinn. Long-time Cornell hockey fan. Lives in the Ithaca area. I'll e-mail Dale and see if he knows.

I have already replied to Adam directly about this photo as it is indeed me in the left of the photo - sans mask for anyone who might have remembered that bit of history. The man with the bell was the only one in the rink who could get the rhythm right for a couple of years and there was an unofficial competition with the bell in Section B which he usually won based on the crowd response. I had a painted goalie mask that I would usually put on when we stood up to do the bell, but for some reason I didn't put it on for the photographer. It was a woman shooting for the Daily Sun, so perhaps they can help with an exact date. From our recollections here, my wife and I having had those seats since the late '80's, the photo must have been taken in the early '90's - most likely '91 or '92. Pretty funny to see it again. The cowbell guy in the photo gave up the bell shortly after his son was born - the student bell improved to where he felt his participation was no longer needed - and he hasn't taken it up since. We've tried, believe me!

That Cowbell Guy once gave me a free ticket (his wife couldn't go) to the Princeton game during the 91-92 season. We lost that game, but eventually made it to the ECAC final where we lost to SLU.

At least he seems to have enjoyed himself back then.
