DIY what if script

I got tired of people asking about it, so I coded the last couple of years worth of RPI kludges into the self-service interface to my slack.net PWR/RPI script.

[slack.net]

Requests to run the thing for you or add new features this year will be ignored. Notification of bugs (other than that it doesn't check the inputs for nonsense) will be appreciated.

Something to file under the "Scersk is a depressive" category:

If we had beaten Ohio State at Lynah, we're in the tourney tied in the pairwise at 12 with Michigan State.
If we had beaten Western Michigan twice instead of losing and tieing, we'd be in at 11 tied with Michigan.
If we had gone 5-2 out of conference instead of 2-2-3, we'd have been in at 13.
If we had gone 7-0 out of conference instead of 2-2-3, we we'd ben in at 7 tied with Ohio State.

The depressing thing to me is that these games were at Lynah. I remember looking at the schedule and saying, "Great! All of our out of conference games save for Florida are at Lynah. We'll win for sure." Yeah. Hrm... out of conference games are important, eh?

Silver lining? We probably won't play as many out of conference games at Lynah next year.

Thanks for the interface, John, it's made me feel "so much better." demented

Since I'm lazy and don't want to do it myself, tell me, what would have happened if we could have held on during the final minute of the Ohio State and Mercyhurst games, and posted a tie against tOSU and a win against Mercyhurst?

if we had beaten western mich twice instead of 0-1-1, beaten bowling green and mercyherst instead of 0-0-2 and beaten ohio state twice instead of 1-0-1, the script indicates that cornell is 11th in pwr, making the tournament. this confirms alot of what some people have been saying about the beginning of the season coming back to haunt us (already given our recent performance).

very interesting script john

even more interesting, to show the importance of 2 small weekends:

-a win over bowling green, mercyhurst and a tie against ohio state places us at #13 (in).
-a win over mercyhurst and a tie against ohio state puts us only @ #15 (out)

All 3 of those outcomes came so close to happening. How important that week of 11/21-11/29 (during which we played those 3 teams) ended up being!

Just holding on for the win in the first Dartmouth game would have been good for 13th in the PWR. . . and the Cleary Cup. . . and the outright Ivy title. This is a very depressing script.:`(

Responding to Mike "A-19":

We would be 11th in the KRACH, which, though much better at ascertaining the actual strengths of teams, isn't what the NCAA uses to seed the tournament. Our PWR would be tied for 7th with Ohio State, to whom we would have just barely lost the comparison, so our actual seeding would be 8th.
