Theyr're talking about it on the Abrams Report on MNSBC right now. If you miss it and you're that much of a news junkie, it re-airs later tonight. Not sure what time -- chekc your local listings, as they say.

Slow news day?

It's a legal issues show, so the top news of the day doesn't always take priority. Bryant, Peterson, Blake, and Jackson had nothing going on in court today, and there's only so much time you can devote to Stewart. But in a word, Greg, yes.

It's more like all the letters look alike when you've been staring at a computer screen the whole day.

[q]The double standard came about a minute after that when the Cornell Pep Band started the chat that ran throughout their entire student section, this chant ended with the entire student section screaming "F@*# 'em up, F@*# 'em up, F@*# 'em up." The pep band then turned to the security officer that had just scolded them for swearing and wanted to know why he was not telling the Cornell fans to watch their language also.[/q]

What is the Clarkson version of the alma mater btw?

Well, the version that my dad and his siblings (graduates of Yale, Brown and Dartmouth) sung to me (in harmony) when I decided to go to Cornell went something like:
Far above Cayuga's waters, there's an awful smell...
Some say it's Cayuga's waters, some say it's Cornell!
I assume Clarkson sings pretty much the same thing to our Alma Mater.

Princeton also sings the "smell" version of our alma mater (well, they do at football games anyway, where their band actually shows up). It makes one wonder just where and with whom exactly the song originated.

Some drunk moron at Colgate decided to scream this at me after Colgate won the game up in Hamilton. But trust me - he only made himself look like an idiot....

I heard it when I was in high school in the mid-1960's, maybe even earlier.
The Allan Sherman version of our alma mater was better. I wish I could remember his words.

And Dartmouth, and Harvard, and Brown, and Colgate, and RPI, and Princeton, and Penn...etc. And they all think they're the only ones to do it.

I've actually heard two versions of the "Awful Smell" alma mater. The other one goes:
Far above Cayuga's waters, there's an awful smell.
There ten thousand suff'ring bastards call themselves Cornell.
Somehow I think that one was written by a Cornellian

Isn't there another verse as follows?

There's a font of Knowledge
Some say it's Cornell University
We know it's Ithaca College.[/q]

No One's Perfect
(Parody of "Annie Lisle" a/k/a "The Cornell Alma Mater (Far Above Cayuga's Waters)"
When the Norman Luboff Chorus
Sings a song like this (like this, like this, like this)
Every single note is gorgeous,
But they sometimes miss.
No one's perfect, no one's perfect, no one's perfect, and
That includes Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians, and The Ray Charles Singers who were made famous by their frequent appearances on The Perry Como Show, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and The Robert Shaw Chorale.
When the chorus sings behind you,
All they do is hum (hum)
Every hum is like an angel,
Then one hum goes bumm!
Far above the other singers,
In the treble clef,
A soprano sings in B flat,
But the key is F.
No one's perfect, no one's perfect,
We have learned tonight,
So you'll be astounded,
When we hit this last note right.

You can add BU to that list. I heard it sung in '77 in The Dugout, a BU bar, by a group of students that included Jim Craig. That's back when the rivalry still meant something to them.

apparently posting a 1-3 record in the two year home-and-home meant enough to not reschedule us ...
is it possible they don't want that kind of a rival???

BU is supposedly playing Cornell again next year, the talk was that they wanted to do two years on, one year off. Haven't seen anything official though

Usually just a lurker, but I just had to pipe up on this one.
My grandfather, Union class of '26 sang the smells version to me when I went to the hill. Yeah, he's old.
Far above Cayuga's Waters
There's an awful smell.
Some say it's Cayuga's waters
others say Cornell.
