Here's a sweet one to get things started:

Cornell finishes the ECAC regular season with a team GAA of 1.55 -- the 2nd-best-ever in league history!!! Only the '68 Big Red team (1.45) was better. B-]

(Yeah, I know, different eras... blah, blah, blah...) snore

(Cornell now occupies 5 of the top 6 spots in that category ('68, '02, '67, [B.C. '65], '70, '69)).

And, to satisfy the "different eras" argument:

Cornell finishes the ECAC regular season with a team GFA of 3.36 -- the 9th-worst-ever in team history. There... fair's fair... now we have balance, OK?! nut

Fun li'l nuggets:

Record when leading after two periods: 16-0-0 B-]

...and... when behind after two periods: 0-3-0 uhoh

Record in OT games: 0-3-2 worry

Record when game's final goal-margin is 3 or greater: 11-0 B-]

Last time Cornell had a regular season without any losses by more than 2 goals (as was the case this year): 1978

(Same criteria as above, but for an entire season: 1970).

Wow... and here we were, excited about how good our offense is this year. I'd hate to think of where last season (2.21) ranks. twitch

Well, the offense is good, by current ECAC standards -- it did finish in 1st place (as did the defense). :-)

(As for last year's offense... well... you don't wanna know...). ;-)

Some other nums:

Games trailing after third period: 3 (BU#1, OSU, Dartmouth#1)

Games giving up more than 3 goals in regulation: 2 (BU#1, Dartmouth#1)

Record against ECAC non-Ivies: 11-0-1; against Ivies: 6-3-1

And the difference between Cornell being the top rated defensive team in the nation right now is 2 empty-net goals.

Actually, they didn't.

Mmmmm, Monday morning boredom motivating me to look that up.

Here's one I found interesting...

Winning Percentage:

#1 - Mercyhurst - 0.865 - MAAC
#2 - Wayne State - 0.825 - CHA
#3 - Cornell - .818 - ECAC
#4 - UNH - 0.771 - Hockey East
#5 - Denver - .0768 - WCHA
#6 - Michigan - 0.750 - CCHA

So, looking at the winners of the 6 conferences, Cornell had the 3rd best winning percentage in the country, and, at the risk of sounding politically incorrect here, Cornell had the best winning percentage of teams in the four "major" conferences...

I don't think that chart really says anythin in our favor. We are a good team in a bad conference. (Mercyhurst is a mediocre team in a horrible conference.) The top teams in the better conferences played tougher schedules, and lost more games as a result.

While you're right about the top teams in the WCHA, CCHA, and HEA playing tougher schedules, I think it does say that we've done very well with the schedule we played.

I'm sure I'll get corrected if wrong but see if this is logical:

CU has the best winning percentage in the weakest of the 4 major conferences:
Do you penalize us for being in the easy conference?
Do we get disrespected because no one else in our conference played well consistently?
Do you see that all the teams are basically equall except CU and UVM, indicating we beat up on a bunch of mediocore teams, and thus taking away from our huge point total?
Or Do you just say CU dominated the league and whenever you dominate a league to that extent its a big deal?

I thought one of these things was going to put a positive spin on this (added the last one to do so), but now I'm just flailing around looking for something.

I think if we had won in the Fla tourney we'd get the benefit of the doubt as opposed to just doubts.

I'll shut up now. If anything in there made sense point it out to me tomorrow.

I think they argue that PWR is their best tool for capturing all of these issues, and punt. It seems black and white to me -- either you accept an ECAC's standing in PWR, or you exclude the ECAC as a "questionable" conference. I doubt there's any chance of the latter, partially because the ECAC is genuinely closer to the big three than the little two, and partially because the history and prestige of the ECAC and its member schools would make that a really unpopular decision.
