Cornell a bouncing puck away from several really good chances.. Maine is quick using open ice passes and speed to generate some offense.

When Cornell go to hit them Maine started chasing.

great aggressive drive at the net and a clean snipe.

puck bouncing around in front of Shane more than I'd like but we're doing a good job of sweeping everything away before they get a clean shot in deep.

Gotta keep getting pucks in deep and working the cycle. Maine seems to have no answer for it when we get it going, and their D seem to struggle with puck retrieval.

Praying to the hockey gods we keep our foot on the gas in the 3rd and don’t go into a shell trying to protect the 2-1 lead.

if I was healthy enough to get out of bed, let alone sit on the bench, I would not be sitting out in the NCAA tournament. I feel like it might be some concern about his recent performance coupled with an illness

I was a dairy farmer and always worked when I was sick. If I was Boija, I would want to play. The difference is, I was helping people by getting my chores done so they didn't have to do extra work. On a team in an important game, you would be hurting your teammates if you tired quickly and your reflexes were slower than normal. As a goalie, a split second can be the difference between a great save and a goal.

Man we’ve got a real winnable game up next too. Denver didn’t look good against UMass, will be gassed from double OT, and we beat them last year. Let’s get Schafer his frozen four that he deserves.

What a great time to put everything together. After Maine's goal, it seemed like our guys never left anyone open again, blocked every passing lane, and swept away every rebound and loose puck near the net. Despite winning the ECAC title last weekend, this was a much more consistent, cleaner performance. Particularly compared to early in the Dartmouth game.

Announcers said Boija is sick. They also said Ostman started 17 of the first 19 games. Sounds like Boija got the hot hand and took over.
if I was healthy enough to get out of bed, let alone sit on the bench, I would not be sitting out in the NCAA tournament. I feel like it might be some concern about his recent performance coupled with an illness

who knows.. could be covid which i doubt they would send out there.

What should we complain about now Bearlover?

I will say this next game is always incredibly tough to win. Especially on a Denver team that’s not going to underestimate us this time.

We have historically been shut down hard in this second game

That was the first time Cornell looked this way the entire season. I’m not sure if it was partially the superior broadcast quality or if Cornell really did just reach another defensive gear tonight. The first period was dicey but after that the defense and compete level were off the charts.

Remember that Denver is playing essentially at sea level instead of 5000"+, they have a day off, and they all are in great shape (as is Cornell)! Agree that Denver didn't look all that good against UMass.

This is absolutely a game that CU can win!!!

I’m confused by the “Denver will be tired” talking point. Is playing 4.5 periods plus a day off really more exhausting than playing 3 periods and not getting a day off (which is every Saturday game over the course of the season)?

These guys are used to playing 3 periods. It’s like if I told you to run a 5k as fast as you can and then when you think you finished you have to go another mile. You’re gonna be a hell of a lot more tired and sore after. It’s also how tired they are compared to Cornell. They might be more rested than they would be for a Saturday game after a Friday game but Cornell also gets the extra day of rest.

I’m more concerned that much of that team saw us in last year’s tournament. The Denver upperclassmen and coaches thought a lot about “what went wrong and how do we fix it”. No real element of mystery, except for when my wish comes true that Castagna goes complete Vesuvius mode and supernovas NBAJam style.

Anyway, Maine had absolutely no idea how to play us.
