We are loose in our own zone, and Dartmouth is giving us nothing in the O-zone. Amazing how better structured Dartmouth is under Cashman than under Gaudet.

We have our work cut out for us.

Can’t.

They didn’t score because of the thread. They scored because I moved my feet away from the lucky spot.

Decent last couple minutes of the period as far as winning pucks and creating chances. Time for Schafer to fire up the buttock Bunsen burners. Let's go boys!

Exactly my thoughts from what I've seen. The blown opportunities later in the period didn't help either

the number of times we unpressured throw blind passes up the wall is killing us.

still positionally played better. one bad play turns into a goal. Dart made several that led to nothing.

the 2 on 1. pass it one time and you make the d commit.. but we just glide until no room is left

the giveway had time to control puck and not take a wild sliding shot on a rolling puck.

We’ve got three guys pinning the one Dartmouth forechecker, and yet he still comes away with the puck and creates the play that leads to their second goal.

Cornell is always built from the goal out. Generally teams that can really skate and have some skill give us fits. Been going on for 20 years. Not an effort thing. I think this year we do have some freshmen with skill and speed. But we never really have “a guy” who you know is going to do something big.

Schafer likes to tamp down the emotions, at least to start games. But the way this one shook out, the emotions ramped up organically, and we finally clicked. We can win a game playing one good period, and that makes us dangerous. I like the vibes going into tomorrow. Hope Kempf's knee feels better.

I thought it was a really smart move to attack the gassed fourth line when we didn’t have a timeout. I would argue it was successful too as they kept our guys out there for an eternity, just didn’t score.

I took it to mean he meant the younger players were especially trying to win this for the older players. If he had a chance to answer again, he would probably give a more coherent answer.

That dumb Dartmouth penalty in the closing seconds of the 2nd period changed everything. Until then we were largely lifeless. Our power play didn’t start out too promising, but Seger (who had a terrific game as usual) made a nice zone entry pass, got the puck over to Bancroft who just labeled one over the Black’s glove. We then had several near misses until Seger again made a gorgeous backhand pass to Penney for the one timer. After that it was pretty much all Cornell.

Now we have to put the hammer down tomorrow and play from the puck drop like we played tonight in the 3rd. SLU will not go down meekly.

I admit that I wasn't paying as much attention to the hockey as I was to the wrestling but I thought that we were making Cooper Black work his ass off and had a lot of near misses. I thought the skates were moving but we weren't cracking through. I never felt like we were out of it even though the third Dartmouth goal was a gut punch. Goddamn do I want to win tomorrow.

Deep down I hope the guys call him Schafer to his face instead of Coach like in the Walsh interview.

I was wondering has anyone ever scored a natural hat trick with empty netters? Was hoping Cashman pulled Black once more.

Who was the most recent guy to forty points prior to Seger? Don’t feel like that happens much in these parts.

And we’re 13 in the pwr…

The problem is that if we lose, I don't think the ECAC is a three-bid league this year no matter what the pwr says.

When asked in the postgame interview what the message was coming out for the third, Walsh said that they “were just doing it for a lot of the guys leaving, especially the younger guys.” Huh?

Coach Schafer appeared possessed for a moment and then told the team "if you lose this game, you'll take it to your fucking graves".

*pause*

“Your fucking graves.”

I’m so glad i wasn’t the only one to have thought exactly that quote after it went to 4-3.

The only thing that matters is what the Pairwise says.

And the Pairwise says Cornell must win tomorrow to make the NCAAs.

I was kidding. If we lose we drop to 16.

If we win we may get to a three seed but with all the geographic shenanigans it doesn’t necessarily result in a favorable placement or matchup.

Lalalala. I’m not listening to what the lousy pairwise says anymore. I only care about a shiny metal object, which happens to come with an automatic bid and just a bit of revelry.

Just win, baby.

Who cares about the 3-seed? Let’s win a championship for once. That would punch our ticket to the NCAAs. Seeding barely matters at all.

It's been FAR too long since Greening, Scrivens, the Nash bros., et al. clinched the trophy in 2010. I think we have had the tendency to undervalue the Cleary trophy since we haven't typically needed an autobid. But this team gets it done when the pressure is on and i like that. I want this for all the fans and players but especially for Coach Schafer. The old man is an inspiration.

The Cleary, like the man, is supposed to be low value. Q already has it, after all.

(Joke explanation: We’re playing for the Whitelaw Cup on Saturday. The Cleary Bedpan is the like the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy.)

They need to win, baby girl will be born tomorrow since she won’t make her appearance before midnight. I may have made my husband watch the semi-final game since laboring mom gets to choose the channel.

I'm struggling to remember the last game I watched with such bad camera work.

Never. It’s awful.

Try watching the video from Gutterson. Makes to this seem Oscar worthy

Who was the most recent guy to forty points prior to Seger? Don’t feel like that happens much in these parts.

Moulson in 04-05: 22G, 20A.

We're lucky to have our leading scorer crack the low 30's in most years!

That was an absolutely awesome game. One of my favorites. Reminds of that Princeton SF at lake placid about ten years ago with the Barlow coast to coast.

If it's the same game I'm thinking of that was Albany in 2009. Here's the clip but I found I had to restart it as it kicks in at the end for some reason. Great memory.

I'm baffled why Cashman pulled Black with about 4:30 to go in regulation. I understand it's do-or-die but that was excessively early with a one-goal deficit
I thought it was a really smart move to attack the gassed fourth line when we didn’t have a timeout. I would argue it was successful too as they kept our guys out there for an eternity, just didn’t score.

Yeah. even though it didn't work, the way it played out it didn't look like a bad move at all.

ETA: I was so impressed I tooted about it: [hostux.social]

Postgame comments in the Sun:

“[Schafer] didn’t say much [after the second period]. We all kind of knew what we had to do,” Walsh said.

“I don’t think we wore them down –– we got on a roll,” Schafer said. “As a coach, I’ve been on the other side. It’s tough when [teams] get on a roll.”

“Our will to win never goes away,” Bancroft said. “We’re always positive, even if we’re down goals.”

Loved the moment deep in the third where our guys pinned it against the wall in the Dartmouth end for a good 45 seconds. Old time hockey.

Old time hockey had a whistle after 5 seconds or so of that. Kevin Pettit used to pin the puck with flair when he wanted a face off.

Except in the old days they would have whistled it dead after 15 seconds.

Ehhh, depends on how old time we're talking. I remember quite a few scrums during my undergrad and early alum days that were let to play out for quite a bit.

I must admit, I would actually prefer quicker whistles on board pins.

I usually don't love those. Often feels like you pin it for ten seconds then it squeaks away and the other team has a break out.

This one was great, though.

My feeligs about this depend on whether I want the puck pinned or free.
