"Hot Glove" sounds like a 70's funk album.

Coming out from Boston this weekend for first time at RPI & Union games, anyone else
gonna be out there? Get some Red fans at each game usually? Does the band come out?

"funk album" was not what was expecting to come after 70s haha...

The capital district has a decent amount of alums. When I lived in Albany, I went to Troy twice and there was always a fair turnout of good red. On at least one of those occasions, the band was there, too. I never saw a game at Union so can't speak to that place although with the game being a Saturday this year, attendance should be good.

The band likely won't make the trip because of the restrictions put on them by the a$$wipes that run the Union rink a few years ago. It must have been 2019 or earlier. They dictated when the band could play in a really childish manner.

I will be there with an alum who rowed crew but hasn't been to hockey in forever. I'm expecting two other regulars in Saturday too.

There might also be a Capital District Cornell alumni group but I'm not sure.

Cripe, there have been Cornell fans at every away game. The most amazing was at Arizona State. The ASU fans kind of sat and watched, didn't interact all that much with the game, and also misunderstood that opposing fans might be, ah, snarky. Scott Pesner '87 noted that when ASU gave up a goal and Cornell fans near Scott chanted "Sieve," the ASU fans complained to security and wanted our people ejected. #snowflakes

And then gets one off of a great play from Mack. As Mack gets dragged down in front of the crease he's still able to feed the puck to Castagna who buries it (at least in part because an Engineer bumped into Watson).

We also could have given up 2. We need to tighten up the D. And we need to sacrifice whatever it takes to get the powerplay working.

One thing Cornell started doing (as of at least last week, possibly prior) was put Fegaras on the first PP unit as a second D. Previously Robertson was the only D on the first PP unit I think. Not a hockey genius so someone else is going to have to explain the advantages/disadvantages of having one versus two D on the PP.

Other than the hilarious number of near misses, very satisfying to watch us skate circles around them. We should have shorted out the scoreboard but probably should also be grateful that we didn't lose against the run of play because they had a number of missed opportunities as well. Loved Seger getting back on the board on a beautiful feed (from Penney?) and finish, plus the tic tac toe from Kraft to DeSantis to Psenicka was great.

Also, just finished watching BC close out a 6-1 win over UNH so hopefully that got us back to 14.

real close in RPI to (12) Providence, (13) Michigan and (13) St. Cloud - though we need to flip more than one comparison to pass either of the teams tied at 13.

More importantly, Q losing to Clarkson means we are in striking distance of them in the PWR. In the ECAC, all that really matters is first round bye + not seeing Q until the final. There isn’t much of a prize for first place versus second.

What a nice game:
* For Cornell and RPI to be close then Cornell break it open toward the end
* To close the gap vs. Quinnipiac in the ECACs; we made up 3 points with a C win and Q loss. Still, tough for Cornell to win the ECAC RS title. Now Q 38 points, Cornell 30.
* To open the gap vs. third place Colgate, now Cornell 30, Colgate 27. At the least, in Lake Placid we we home jerseys.
* For a nice broadcast performance by the kids at RPI-TV.

ECACs going into the 2/10 Cornell-Union game, below. Union has extra incentive Saturday vs. Cornell because it's 2 points out of fourth place and a first round bye.

That game was close due solely to the effort by Watson. He had at least a half dozen “ten bell” saves in that one. Maybe a third Cornell goal earlier doesn’t break RPI’s back but the timing of the Seger goal sucked most of the rest of the life out of them. By the way congrats on 100 career points Gabriel. More than half of them in a season plus at Cornell. What a difference maker in every facet.

I’m really digging the balance of the lineup. Every line scored in this one. Every line mostly interchangeable at 5x5 at both ends of the ice. Regardless of how deep they go, the foundation is being laid for future success. Boy that Castagna is a magician. Set the tone early with that stick handle through traffic that got stopped. Even more impressive to me was the move nine minutes into the first when he came off the boards and caused two defenders to fall to the ice as he weaved through them. I thought it was appropriate that he benefited from his line mates drawing the attention and giving him an easy look on his goal since he does that so much for them. I think I had a flashback to better power play days when I saw Castagna drift to the left circle late during one of their opportunities in the first. They didn’t get him the puck but visions of Moulson firing away from that spot gives me hope that someday with a player like Castagna they can get back to that style. What a crazy game to have more scoring chances short handed than with the man advantage. What a weird game to score twice moments after drawing penalties. Even weirder yet was to be caught twice with too many men. It wasn’t perfect but Big Red took care of business against a weaker opponent. Hard to believe that’s eleven straight without a regulation loss.

That was a neat arena. This was our choice for year three of going to a different away ECAC venue. The people were nice despite our colors. Players walking to the bench through the crowd is unique. Of course a win helps but would gladly go back there someday. Those of you staying in town for tomorrow, go get ‘em!

Solid win, despite our inexplicable inability to put home one of the numerous breakaway chances.

And I thought RPI’s unis were quite snazzy.

I was talking to a rink staffer during pregame warmups. He told me because of a problem with the under ice cooling system they had to re-route the visiting team from the original entry through the zamboni doors in the southeast corner of the ice, and very close to the visitors lockers. Now they walk half the length of the ice past several sections of fan seating on the general public walkway to enter into the team bench at center ice. When returning to the locker room after warmups, that walkway is lined by little kids asking for sticks, pucks, or just fist bumps which our players good-naturedly provided (not sticks.) Walking on their skates past these little kids and average fans, our guys look huuuge. This route costs them a couple extra minutes between periods, and I'm not convinced about the reason, since the zambonis still enter and exit the ice over the same part of the ice.

Imagine if the visiting team at Lynah had to walk an arm's length away from Sections A B and C to get to and from the ice. Especially the guy that just drew a game misconduct.scared

Thanks for asking. This is a bizarre change. Imagine if Rand Peck4073 had to make the walk.

There was at least one game this year during which the visitors used the 3rd locker room. Their path was further south through the men's room hallway.

@DailySunSports
Cornell's unbeaten streak extends to 11 games after a dominant victory over RPI.

Cue the Spinal Tap references...

I noticed in the third period that the coaching staff had barely entered the bench area after that walk before they had dropped the puck. I'm surprised that they don't cue them to walk 30 seconds sooner.

It's good to know that the spirit of Uncle Ned still lives at RPI, not that it helps much these days.B-]
