Much more careful and tactical game tonight by both teams. Walsh and Bancroft seem to complement each other. Mosko in for O'Brien as the 7th D.

Shots in the first: 3-1, Cornell. I don't think I've ever seen a lower shot total.

We are comfortable playing up tempo, particularly the 8 freshmen skating tonight. O'Leary is no longer an anomaly; we have at least 3 other forwards all busting their ass, accelerating, blowing past their opponents: DeSantis, Walsh, Castagna.

Robertson already looks like an experienced defenseman.

We have a lot to work with, and these guys may be special if they develop even more. As it stands, we already look like a good team.

What a beautiful move by Bancroft to set up Penney. So pretty.

Kraft the most important effort on the second goal as the "third assist." Robertson then a great play to create the third, finishing with a perfect pass to Seger at the back door.

Great second period thus far, 3-0.

DeSantis with two heroic blocks in this game, one without his stick. Cornell has blocked 15 of 23 UMD shots.

At one point on the last shift Kempf deposited two UMD players behind Shane in the net.

3-0 final as Shane survives the final 2:30 6x4.

Great weekend, lads.

Duluth came out better today but it still wasn't enough to match the home team. I suspect they'll be in the lower half of the NCHC by the end of the year but that still doesn't take away from Cornell's showing given the significant change in personnel

Duluth will be 5th at worst. I predict 3rd.

If anyone is looking for a negative (a.k.a. the Mets Perspective), Cornell's goals scored in their four games is: 6, 5, 4, 3.

FYI, Psenicka left the ice in the third period (I think), in visible pain, and then collapsed in the passageway to the locker room. He was down for a few minutes and being attended to by staff, and then he retook the ice and surprisingly played the rest of the game. Apparently, he was no longer in enough pain that he had to leave the game (or, even worse, have his season or career impacted), but it was scary there for a second. He's a super, super good guy.

Ondrej is a hoot. My daughter, a current junior, knows him slightly and has some funny stories about him. Good guy.

He took the time to take pictures with my son (because I had informed him that he is my son's favorite player) and gave him a puck. (Incidentally, I started to cry. TMI?)

Grady hypothesized that since he was not facing the play when he was struck by the puck it probably hit him somewhere unprotected by padding, for example, the back of the knee. Since he returned and was apparently unimpaired, it was apparently something intensely but fleetingly painful, and not injurious.

Like an episode of "Seinfeld."

No need to use the indefinite article when the distributive adjective serves.

The UMD coach discussing Adam Johnson, a former UMD player, who passed away after a terrible on-ice skate blade incident earlier on Saturday in England:

Scott Sandelin
“This is just so hard to grasp. He’ll be missed, man. Too short. Too short. Twenty-nine years old. This puts a lot of things into perspective. The game (at Cornell) didn’t mean jack s— last night for me.”
