we are 1 RL from princ/clark from having the teams be in a nice order of RL losses.. 2/3/4/5/6/7/7/9/10 one thru nine..

if they can sweep colgate they lock up top 4.

#11 Cornell (13-5-3 / 8-3-3) entered the Colgate (9-14-2 / 4-7-2) home and home last season and went 0-1-1, as part of a 0-3-3 interval that buried us in 4th and set us up to play the QF against the #5... Colgate. Who then dispatched us and ended our season.

The main discriminator between last season and this one, which could propel this team to Lake Placid and the NC$$s, would be to take care of business against the Raiders. So it is we, #11, enter this season's home and home, (15-7-1 / 12-4-0) vs (13-13-2 / 10-6-0).

Sorry to continue to harp on this, but I really wish we would stop making these apples-to-oranges comparisons. Last year’s team had 4 3x3 OT victories by this point and 0 OT losses. This year’s team has 0 OT victories and 1 OT loss. In the above, you are counting OT wins the same as regulation wins and OT losses the same as regulation losses, even though they are not treated the same in the standings or the pairwise and even though OT is a totally different game than 5x5 hockey. The result is that last year’s team looks far more impressive record-wise than it actually was at this point. I also do not believe last year’s team ever got as high in the PWR as this year’s team. I recall we got up to 14th after we swept NoDak, but we certainly didn’t spend an extended period in the top 12 like this year’s team has. We were certainly well below the top 15 by the time we started our series vs. Colgate.

The reason I harp on this is that this year’s team is clearly better in the standings, in the Pairwise, and simply from watching them on the ice. There isn’t much in common with last year’s team.

You are correct that these games vs. Colgate are important; Colgate may be the fourth best team in the ECAC (though I’d still rather play them than Clarkson) and we want revenge. And every game is critical now. But I wish we would stop pretending last year’s team was in a similar position to this year’s team. And I wish everyone (not just Trotsky but also CHN, the Daily Sun, etc.) would stop obfuscating everybody’s records by lumping together regulation and OT outcomes.

Umm ... since you called my name ... we absolutely do break out a team's "real" record on CHN. In multiple places. Not every single time a record is mentioned - like say in an article - because it's, frankly, a pain in the ass.

But on our Standings page, Pairwise, etc... - We most certainly do break it out. Annoyingly so, to some people.

I'll admit that this is personal preference, and far be it from me to encourage even more annoyance, but -- I grew up on W-L-T standings (the way the hockey gods intended), and it bugs me when shootout results aren't separately recorded in the standings. Yes, an OT win is the same as a shootout win points-wise, and I will rail against the shootout and 3x3 OT while there is breath in my body, but as long as we have to have both abominations around, I'd rather they be reflected in the standings in all their agonizing, holy-crap-yet-another-column glory.

(And this only came up because I was trying to figure out why Clarkson's and Yale's point totals on USCHO didn't match the ones on CHN or ECAC Hockey. USCHO has a shootout result backward.)

W-L-T is not personal preference, it's the basis of all morality in the universe.

It's funny because had I grown up in a proper soccer country I would have no objection to 3-2-1-0 standings.

But I did not, so fuck that.
