My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.
261 days this time. Just another reason to hope for a deep run into the post-season next March-April. Particularly if the Mets are going to crap out in the Wild Card game.

So, seems the penalty gremlin bit us in the gluteus again.
And, Clarkson and SLU crushed these guys?
Well, at least it was non-Ivy.

It looked like there were some pretty tough calls against us, including Angello's major. The Merrimack player had shot the puck into the net after the whistle. Angello and some other Cornell players around the crease took issue with that. If the refs really felt the need, after reviewing the play for several minutes, to call a five minute major penalty on Angello, where was the penalty on the Merrimack player for unsportsmanlike conduct, or whatever penalty they call when a player shoots at the net after the whistle?

sounded to me they started out chasing and down 3-0 they played much better as the game went along with a late chance to tie. first real game and on the road they didnt pack it in.

CU site recap. Not sure who does it but this one is abnormally well-written.
Almost for sure it was written by Brandon Thomas from Athletic Communications. He used to be a sports writer for the IJ and left there to join CU a couple of years ago. Our gain, but no one as good has replaced him at the IJ.

Glad to read that Kaldis was out there defending in a 5-on-3. One never knows how a freshman is going to turn out, no matter how ballyhooed. I haven't had to opportunity to see him play yet, but it sounds as if he's the real deal.

... although the Cornell-written game story notes a major was assessed but not who got it and doesn't explain how Stewart (cited in the first paragraph: "goaltender Hayden Stewart stopped all 15 shots he saw Friday night" ) came to be the goaltender midway through the game. For that, you need The Sun.
Zach Silver, Cornell Daily Sun
Schafer wanted to give his team an energy boost to hopefully turn the game around, and he accomplished this objective by pulling Gillam and putting in backup junior Hayden Stewart.
“[Gillam] wasn’t playing very well and wasn’t getting the job done,” Schafer said. “We needed to not give up anymore and it was an easy decision.”
Throughout the preseason, Schafer has made clear that while Gillam holds the upper hand in the starting position, Stewart has been breathing down his neck and any slip up in the senior’s game could hand Stewart the starting job.

Gillam didn't seem at the top of his game, particularly on the third goal. It'll be an interesting week of practice and to see who is in net for Dartmouth. I could see him using Stewart, but it's also true that the team seemed to play a lot better in front of Stewart. By no means were the goals all Gillam's fault.
