The Red and White scrimmage had some changes in format from previous years:
Ice was a bit snowy and hindered puck movement towards end of periods.
First period R. Coon was in net for White men and H. Stewart was in net for Red men. They switched colors for second period.
M. Gilliam did not dress.
Freshman: Anthony Angello seemed very comfortable and showed deceptive speed along with a good sense of positioning and coverage defensively; several times he covered the point as needed and back-checked well. He made some really nice plays including assist on first white goal.
Beau Starrett uses his size to advantage protecting the puck nicely and moves quick for a freshman of his size. His shootout goal was a dangle and puck handling of great beauty.
M Nuttle played mostly paired with Wilcox and seemed a good fit. He showed a fair bit of speed and seemed to position well. I do remember one freshman pass across top of our zone that went to no-one.
T. Shore Has OK size and played smoothly and fit in well to flow of play.
Others: Kubiak seemed in full game shape = hustle and goals and nice passes... very good to see.
Christian Hilbrich both goals were sharp shots right in upper corner. He was a force on the ice as I expected!
M. Buckles looked excellent!
J. Fiegl and J. Weidner both seemed stronger and were strong off of face-offs -
A Rauter and E. Freschi both looked in great form. I thought Alex was somewhat stronger this year and Eric had some great hustle and a couple of very nice passes.
I know I missed a lot, I took no notes, just sat and enjoyed the game.
It is worth coming to see next year if you can make it!
PS if only for the raffle
- Almost all of the freshman were on the White team (I wondered if that was intentional or just the way the lines and defense pairings worked out?)
- Each shift of men and women was somewhat longer allowing for a full line change during each shift.
