Where has it gone? Did I miss a memo? Is it coming back?

Sorry, it's not coming back. At least for now. Too many people, including nonmembers, treating it as an all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet.

That's unfortunate.
I always thought Pat had a pretty onerous task in what she did to make things work. Aside from missing parts of the game, she would often check to make sure that people she didn't recognize were, in fact, CHA members. (I know because before she knew me she asked me with a fair amount of regularity whether or not I was a member.) But I had not realized that non-members crashing the party had become a serious problem.
If it is ever to be tried again, perhaps members could be asked to wear their membership pins as a visible sign that they are a member. If everyone complies, that should make it really uncomfortable for any non-member trying to crash, and also pretty easy for the person or people in charge of things to find those people and chat with them.
Also perhaps better signage might help. Something that clearly indicates that the gathering is for CHA dues-paying members only, and that non-members should take some action (pick up a flyer, see a certain person, etc.) if interested in membership. I think sometimes the "crashers" may have just wandered up, without any bad intentions, and may have been willing to join the CHA if the opportunity were presented properly, by the right person.
I'd like to see the hospitality room return, partially because I enjoy the snacks between the first and second periods (we stay in our seats between the second and third for the alma mater) but also because it's nice to be able to chat with people about what's been going on on the ice. While I may not be as gregarious as some, I'm still going to miss the opportunity to talk Cornell hockey as it's happening. (And have some cookies!)
