Ben's shut out streak comes to an end in Boston. Late in the 3rd, Boston winning 4-0. Ben took a shot near the collarbone (according to the Edmonton radio guys) in the 3rd. He stayed in the game, but then Edmonton quickly gave up 2 goals. Hope Scrivens is okay.

Riley Nash pots his 7th of the season to tie things up for Carolina against Winnipeg in the 3rd period.

Ben saves 35 in oilers 2-1 win at MSG.

Sounds like whatever "stinger" Ben got on Saturday wasn't serious.

I was catching up on my podcasts and listening to NPR's "Only a Game" (2/1 episode) and Ben got a mention for his 59 save game. He definitely has gotten more than his 15 minutes of fame from that game.

Impressive reporting. In this article about Scrivens' success at MSG, I was thinking they wouldn't know about the Red Hot Hockey series, and his shaky start in the first one... Sure enough:

Scrivens went 0-1-1 in two games for Cornell against Boston University at MSG; he established a then-career high with 36 saves in a 6-3 loss in 2007 and secured a 3-3 tie in 2009 though the Big Red were outshot 35-17.

I can't post the quote from my phone, but the first paragraph leaves logic behind.

Or did I have too much coffee this morning?

"Canadiens winger Max Pacioretty became the first player in NHL history to miss two penalty shots in one game. While I can't find the specific record, I'm pretty confident in adding that he's the first player in NHL history to miss two penalty shots in one game while scoring three goals."

I noticed this tidbit at the bottom of a pretty great CHN article:

The penalty shot goal by Adam Chapie at 24 seconds of this video was Lowell's first penalty shot goal since the 1996-97 season.

I laugh at that pitiful drought.

You may have had too much coffee, but it is certainly the case that A < B + A --> B.

I saw that on some show on ESPN and laughed and thought.. "Gee, sounds like something a Cornell hockey player would do". :).

The first part, yes. The second not so much.

And he was interviewed on the NHL Network post-game.

From NBC Sports:

Eakins wants to see if Scrivens is ‘for real’

[prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com]

Since joining the Edmonton Oilers in a trade, Ben Scrivens has stood on his head. While he’s gone 3-3-0 in his six games there, his numbers are outstanding.

Oilers coach Dallas Eakins has Scrivens and Ilya Bryzgalov in goal and said he’ll ride the hot hand. As Chris O’Leary of the Edmonton Journal shares, he wants to know if Scrivens is the real deal.

“There’s a part of me that yeah, I want to see if Scrivens is for real,” Eakins said. “I’d like to give him more games, but then the delicate balance is handing and giving things to people. But (Scrivens) has earned his starts and, as of late, Bryz has earned his too. I think coming out of the break we’ll probably tiptoe into it a bit and get both guys up to speed.”

The Olympic break came at a poor time for Scrivens as he was playing strong including a record-setting 59-save shutout against the San Jose Sharks. The same can be said of Bryzgalov as well as his past three starts have also been strong, albeit without setting any records.

That said the opportunity is there for Scrivens to grab hold of the No. 1 job and not let go. That first opportunity to lock it down may come when the Oilers host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Re: Alumni in the Pros_ February 2014 Moulson 2/26

Buffalo's Matt Moulson draws a double minor that lets Boston get a PPG goal and break a 3-3 tie. Moulson rebounds his own shot for an extra attacker goal, then Buffalo wins 5-4 :22 into overtime.
