Women's Olympic Hockey update

There was a lack of goodwill towards (wo)man and Christmas cheer at the exhibition game between the US and Canadian teams and Brianne Jenner was in the middle of it.

Interesting note at the bottom of the article in that Kevin Dineen, former Hartford Whaler and most recent ex-Florida Panther coach is now coaching the Canadian women's team.

I stumbled upon that game last night on TV. It was a fairly entertaining game with the US playing well.

The scrum at the end was not all that surprising with Canada getting thoroughly outplayed for large stretches of the game and it had become chippy long before that point. I will say that was the first time at a women's game that I've seen a player throw punches at another player who was lying on their back on the ice. I'm sure it will be an entertaining Olympics.

Dineen was named coach about a week ago after the previous one unexpectedly resigned due to I believe what he felt as the loss is support from players.

On a side note I am loving all of the Olympic trials and pre-competitions that NBCSN has been showing for lots of sports. I really enjoyed the curling matches on Thursday night.

Both Pucci and Bellamy, the. U.S. player jawing at Jenner after the fighting, are Harvard players, so there's some history there.

But it was a dumb play by Brenner. No reason to take out Pucci like that.

Thanks and having been around women's college hockey for the last few years, there's some great players in the game. We don't get to see the players from the East out here in the West as much though. I wish UND got to play the Cornell's and the Harvard's. We did get to play Clarkson this season.

Fortino, Jenner, Johnston and Rougueau all make the Olympic roster for Canada.
