There's also an exhibition game on Friday against Brampton (from the CWHL). Skating in anger for the first time on the sacred ice this season.

2012-2013 Season Preview: [www.cornellbigred.com]
Cornell Big Red needs an editor:

ITHACA, N.Y. – The winningest senior class in Cornell history has departed, but the Big Red women's hockey team doesn't plan on going anywhere. After reaching the Frozen Four for the third consecutive year in 2011-2012, a strong Cornell team will return to Lynah Rink this year with its sights set on a trip to Minneapolis in March.

The team will open its season Friday night at 7 p.m. with an exhibition contest against the Brampton of the CWHL, bringing back 14 players from a unit that won 30 games last season, claimed an ECAC Hockey regular season title, an Ivy League championship and a third straight berth in the NCAA Tournament.

“We really stress the importance of focusing on the day-to-day process,” Cornell coach Doug Derraugh said. “If you don't focus in on the day-to-day process, if you don't prepare well then you're never going to get there.”

Cornell returns 13 players from last season and brings in a strong recruiting class of eight.

I am especially partial to that photo, since my wife and I as clearly visible in the stands on the far left.

Preseason ECAC article on Cornell, with breakdown by position.

And CornellBigRed.com article on "Jenner, Johnston '12 Named to Hockey Canada Roster for 4 Nations Cup". It's 11/6 - 11/10, and we just happen to have a 2 week break in our schedule then.

It's really too bad that there isn't at least video, even if no audio, for their preseason games.

I believe that Brampton team is a pretty highly regarded women's team; has two Olympic gold medal winners on it. Even though it was an exhibition game, it is a quality win.

I would agree. Montreal is even more highly regarded. If Cornell is able to win again tomorrow, that would be an great sign for the upcoming season. Both exhibition games should hopefully be good preparation for BU next weekend.

Women lose to Montreal 1-3. No exaggeration: half the visitor's roster listed "Team Canada" as last team played for. Both goal tenders who played were on the Olympic team. And this wasn't a team of 35-year-old Olympians, either. They were unbelieveable athletes and a pleasure to watch.

That being said, given that our coaches have been on the ice for a week and this was the team's second game, we didn't look that bad. Passing wasn't as crisp as it will be mid-season and there were a lot of freshman mistakes but it can only help the team's development to face competition like this early in the season. I was sitting with the father of one of the seniors who was particularly frustrated by one shift that resulted in a take away and odd-man rush. I reminded him that at the time there were 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores on the ice playing the Canadian Olympic team. I did get a laugh out of him.
