Cornell's Mount Rushmore

So, over on USCHO, there's a thread to choose the 4 people who would deserve to be on your program's "Mount Rushmore." It can be anyone - player, coach, university president, stick boy, whatever. So far, there have been an underwhelming number of nominators - namely, me.

I chose:
Dryden (duh)
Harkness (duh)
Nieuwendyk (possibly controversial if just considering his college career?)
Nethery - tops in pts/gm for Cornell

with shout outs to Dan Lodboa, Brian Cornell, Mike Schafer, Brock Tredway, and Doug Ferguson. However, I'm only allowed to nominate 4, so unless someone else participates, I will be the Decider - and I've probably screwed it up. Tell me how!

:)

Pure recency bias but I'll take Murray over Nethery because I have no idea how Nethery was as a two-way player and I want someone from the Schafer era on the mountain.

Harkness is a given. I think Dryden is about as close. Why not Walter Carpenter, Jr.? We would not have Lynah Rink without him. I would like Schafer too.

Can we put a big cowbell up there?

Harkness, Dryden, Ferguson and Nethery (with Nethery being the TR equivalent).

Just to mix things up a little bit:

Kennedy, Dryden, Eliot, LeNeveu

Good as he was, I don't think anyone who only played for 2 years would qualify w/o winning a NC (esp. since Leneveu wasn't even full time his first year)

Agree, Jeff, based on their accomplishments at Cornell.

Well, it's not like Lincoln served two full terms.

True, but was LeNeveu Jewish?

Could be many reasons why a platooned Cornell goalie didn't get the Friday night start.

I think when all is said and done Schafer may be on the mountain. Harkness and Dryden are absolute locks. Nieuwy was a wonderful Cornell player but his career is also colored by what he accomplished in the NHL. For sheer Cornell chops I would go with Doug Ferguson and Lance Nethery as the other two.

And Nieuwy has continued to give back to Cornell since the day he left, whereas Dryden randomly showed up once or twice. I'd put Joe up there before Dryden, but I guess you'd probably have include both.

Let's be fair... I've personally spoken to Ken more than once or twice in his visits to Lynah. He's been back more often than that. He just choses to keep a low profile. We can't blame him for that, can we?

Ken Dryden probably deserves to be on Cornell's Hockey Rushmore?

Yes, probably. His achievements as a player warrant it. His efforts as an alumnus do not. The first probably outweighs the second. Dryden had an impact at Cornell for 3 years. Joe has had a significant impact at Cornell for about 20 and will likely continue to. So, yeah, for a Cornell Mount Rushmore, I absolutely think Joe deserves to be up there before Dryden.

Yes, probably.
When you pee in the wind, you should probably change directions.

Harkness, Schafer, Dryden, Nieuwendyk.

Nobody from the women's team? My four for that side would be: Hines, Degidio, Derraugh, Johnston. Strong case for Mazz as well (or waiting for the current team to graduate).
